- Turkey – is the first protein listed in this protein-rich formula. In dry dog foods though these meats lose about 80% of their weight as water evaporates during the drying process, so turkey and chicken may not actually contain the largest amount of protein in this formula.
- Chicken – is the second protein. Both the turkey and chicken are derived from a “clean combination of flesh and skin” which is taken from various parts of the bird, both dark and white meat. Along with the skin comes a fatty acid named linoleic acid, essential to a dog’s growth and development.
- Chicken Meal – is most likely the dominant form of protein in this formula. Meal is a meat concentrate and as such often contains three times the amount of protein that is found in regular chicken meat.
- Barley – provides fiber and other nutrients. While it’s technically a starchy carbohydrate, it’s relatively low on the glycemic index and may help to regulate your large senior dog’s blood sugar.
