1 out of 5 stars flea zapper   October 5, 2008

This product was useless to me. The prongs of the comb are covered with plastic balls that were so close to each other that it prevented the comb from going through the cats' fur. When I tried to angle the comb in an attempt to get at the fleas the cat got a shock. I had one a long time ago that had no plastic on the ends of the comb and it worked perfectly. I am unable to find that type of flea zapper any more. For me this was a total waste of money.br /

2 out of 5 stars Flea Zapper Comb is a Sham   June 22, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

Flea Zapper Comb is a Sham. It does kill fleas, hence two stars instead of one. br /br /So why not 5 stars?br /br /Catch #1. br /Here is a quote from the Owner's Manual:br /"Use the Flea Zapper Comb DAILY for TWO consecutive weeks. This will increase your success in eliminating the flea infestation".br /Translation: to get ANY results you will need to spend HOURS combing your pet with that device. br /br /Catch #2. It's just a little better than searching for fleas by yourself and killing them with your fingers. The only difference is you search for fleas and then kill them with the zapper... if you are lucky to position it correctly. br /br /Catch #3. Your chances of accidentally killing a flea while combing your furry friend are as good as accidentally finding a needle in haystack. br /That's right. Unless you want to spend half of the day "daily for two consecutive weeks" just using the comb you have to actively search for a flea and once you locate it carefully put in on an electric chair (i.e. put it between the comb teeth at the right angle). br /br /I have used it on a small cat with a short hair for about a week. br /I tried, I really tried. br /The fleas are still there and I have better things to do with my time.br /br /My mom has 2 small dogs. She used the flea zapper on them. She even gave them a really short "haircut" to make things easier. Same result.br /br /Hey, Koolatron, how about some truth in advertising?br /br /br /br /br /br /br /br /br /br /br /br /br /br /br /br /br /br /br /br /

5 out of 5 stars Great For Dogs With Long Hair Too!   April 4, 2008

I've been using this on my Yorkie for over a year with great results. She has a floor length show coat which is a nightmare to deal with when it becomes infested with fleas. Frontline and other topical treatments make my dog sick and shakey--plus they weigh her coat down and make it look greasy. br /br /Since dragging the zapper head to tail through her long coat isn't possible, I divide her hair in manageable two inch sections and comb from root to tip. It works great! The fleas spark and die when touched by the metal teeth of the comb. And my dog loves the attention of being groomed.br /br /If you purchase this product, please remember that it can shock your animal and make the process uncomfortable for him or her. I would recommend that only adults use it and that you comb with a slow and steady hand to eliminate any unwanted zaps.br /br /Lastly, I used to spend about $120.00 yearly on flea prevention and treatment products. Since buying the Flea Zapper Comb a year ago, I have not spent another penny on topical flea products. I just comb my animals once or twice a week with the zapper (whether they're scratching or not) and they stay clear of fleas.

4 out of 5 stars Lives up to its claims   March 13, 2008
3 out of 3 found this review helpful

I was a little skeptical, especially when I heard the high pitched whine the comb makes, but to my amazement that doesnt bother my cat at all - and she LOVES the comb! When she hears the whine she comes running. It zaps the fleas just like they say, and definitely causes no harm. Kitty once touched her lip to it and got a little shock, which didnt seem to bother her. The reason I give it 4 stars not 5 is because its cheaply made for something which isnt exactly cheap. The battery compartment doesnt close well and pops off easily, the tines of the comb bend too easily and even the plastic part of the comb has already broken. But I wouldnt hesitate to get another when I need one!
