Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
CatGenie, the world's only self-flushing, self-washing cat box. You'll never scoop, touch or change litter again. The CatGenie Secret?... Washable Granules, not litter. Collecting cat waste in a box of litter is unsanitary. Cleaning the mess out is unpleasant. To satisfy a cat's need to dig and cover, CatGenie uses comfy, permanent Washable Granules instead of disposable litter. To cats, it's just like using a clean litter box. CatGenie is more than a cat toilet it's a modern appliance. Every day, it automatically flushes just cat waste completely out of the home. Then washes itself clean. You never scoop, touch or change litter. CatGenie is cat sanitation that is as clean as a cat. Unlike all litter boxes, only CatGenie automatically: The GenieHand scoops and separates solids, which get liquefied and flushed along with liquid waste for safe, easy drainage out of the home.

5 out of 5 stars Cat owner miracle machine!   January 3, 2009
My husband and I finally broke down recently and had to do something...anything...to keep from having to scoop poop! We've had our feline child, Chester, now for approximately 3 months, and needless to say after the very 1st a solution had to be found. I DESPISE the dust, smell, and also the "appearance" of a litter box and had hidden it away in an extra closet leaving the door cracked so Chester could squeeze through to use the bathroom. Even after doing all of this, the smell still bothered me, (as I am OCD and detest my home being unclean and smelling foul). I know, I know...these things are super expensive, right? Do the math. Add up how much you would spend over the period of year just on cat litter, not to mention the Arm and Hammer deodorizer, etc. Pretty close figure in comparison, eh? That's what we basically did: weighed the pros and cons and purchased the CatGenie. At first, I was VERY skeptical about it; I've read both good and bad reviews, so I wasn't sold all the way. Let me tell you first of all...It is a pain in the a** to hook up, but once it is all is well. Chester took to it immediately, (as he is shy by no means), and we were able to take away his litter box in the same day. The directions also say to wait a week before you run it in their presence; after about the third day I said, "what the heck," and ran it while Chester was awake. He loved it! He gets such a kick out of watching the thing! Be warned...MAIN CON: If you cannot stand a mess, like myself, buy the CatGenie sidewalls and dome. When your cat jumps out, he/she will leave some of the pellets on the floor. We couldn't stand these little things in our bathroom where we tread barefoot, so we purchased sidewalls and dome, (which Chester also loves), and a little mat that catches most of the pellets, then moved the contraption into his room, (aka the "guestroom"). I would have never in a million years put a cat's "litter box" in the guestroom, but with the dome and sidewalls the smell is nonexistent and you cannot actually "see" the cat waste because it is covered by the dome, (which is pretty stylish). I use a little hand held mini vac for sucking up the loose pellets that Chester tracks and then dump them back in the CatGenie, (this saves the $ that you would waste buying more pellets because of them being tracked through your home). Oh! One more thing: Make sure, (I cannot stress this enough), that you get the unscented cleanser to go with it! The scented smells AWFUL while it's cleaning! It eventually dissipates after about 30 minutes, but when the CatGenie is blow-drying the pellets, the smell of poop mingled with a citrusy-flower smell is not appealing at all! So, good luck to all of you pet owners....I, for one, am NEVER going back to scooping poop again; I'll stick with pressing my one button and letting the CatGenie do all of the work.br /br /TIP: my husband and I bought our on Black Friday and saved around $100. If you can put it off until then you'll save a few bucks.

5 out of 5 stars I will never go back to another litterbox.   January 2, 2009
We have had our Cat Genie for approximately 5 months now. I have two giant Maine Coons, and their pottying habits match their size. I was forever cleaning two extra large litterboxes before the Cat Genie.br /br /We have ours in our laundry room. We had two minor problems, once with the hopper, after 2 months of use. I probably should have cleaned it more often than I have (The company recommends doing so if you have long haired or large cats, both of which mine are guilty as charged.) Secondly, our computer unit never beeped. We didn't realize it should until we were reading the manual again to fix the problem with the hopper.br /br /I cannot say enough about the Cat Genie customer service. They are there convenient hours, they answer quickly and are always super helpful. They sent us a new hopper overnight, and when we mentioned the lack of beeping, they sent us a new computer unit overnight too.br /br /Structurally, the unit is great, and I love how big the bowl is. My boys have no problems getting in and out. The only thing we can't use is the cover that came with it(I got a combo deal that was on special and included it), because Milo and Connor are too tall for it.br /br /If there ever is an issue with the unit, it is easily fixed, and customer service and tech support are right there to help you. For the ease of never having to deal with regular cat litter, and only ocassional dealings with their 'business', I will NEVER EVER not have a cat genie when I have cats.

I bought two of these. One for myself and the other for my sister.br /br /I found out that my sister had trouble with hers from the start. It failed to drain and she was constantly having to clear the impeller. Because of this she never was able to use it in automatic mode. Customer support was not helpful in getting the thing to work for her and I learned that she gave up on it and returned to the LitterMaid litter box.br /br /The one I had was working well and my cat had adapted to it pretty easily. Recently it stopped draining, so I followed the instructions and cleaned it really well. I ran it through the cycle and it overflowed all over the bathroom floor. I then replaced the sensor that detects was level and ran it through the cycle again. It still failed to drain. I too have given up on it and have returned to the LitterMaid. If anyone is interested in purchasing the better part of a case of sanisolution let me know.

I have had no problems getting ahold of customer service. Sometimes there's a long wait but every call has been answered. Here are a couple of recent improvements that have brought on better success. br /br /1) New Improved hopper - no more clogs!br /2) Scrubber Kit - brushes that you install under the bowl which scrubs the basin so this will hopefully take care of that smell when drying. br /3) New scoop which is supposed to clean the granules bowl better. Hopefully less poop sneaks through. br /br /Call customer service and ask them to send you the "new scoop" "scrubber kit"br /br /Check ebay for refill kits that reset the cartridge for another 60 washes. Fill with any safe disinfecting cleanser such as Simple Green Naturals Dilutable Concentrated Cleaner. br /br /Here's my suggestions to improve user kitty experience;br /br /1) Actual clock to which users can set wash cycle times.br /2) Up to 6 wash cycles a daybr /3) Auto scoop after each use feature - Keep sanisolution filled in the hopper so that each scooped poo would drop in the water, keeping smell down.br /4) Manual scoop button - scoop on demand, no wash.br /5) Heavier granules that don't stick to the cats paws - less tracking.br /6) Need to add a rinse cycle to the hopper - it gets very nasty in there.br /7) Improve smartchip on cartridge - too many false readingsbr /8) Add a cover over the scoop (hopper opening) that opens/closes with the scoop to keep noise down and smells in.br /9) Need to increase the overall litter (granules) area by 30% for larger cats (over 15lbs)br /br /br /With the above improvements implemented I think the user kitty experience would be significantly improved. It just may be 100% self-sufficient!br /br /Please CatGenie you're 90% there... just a few more improvements and I'll come work for your sales team! br /br /I love my CatGenie... almost! br /
