Is it a Japanese Spitz?
Hello,
I'm hoping someone here can give me some advice. How much is too much?
I've loved the Japanese Spitz. I've been researching the breed for awhile. The prices seem to be anywhere from $500 to $1200 for a puppy (I understand that the bloodline determines the price, more so when the parents are from champion stock). I have located someone who has placed their pup for sale, the owner is devastated that she has to give the pup up (i think she's moving overseas) and has asked for $800 for the female, 3 month old.
She tells me the pup is from a champion bloodline but does not have papers (only vet and health certificates). She has photos of the dogs parents which she has kindly given to me, the mother looks like a pedigree yet the father has a very light tint of a tan colour around its scruff (the photo is only a head-shot of the doggy). What do you think? Should I leave this one? Is $800 too much?

First of all it depends on what type of Japanese Spitz it is...I've owned and bred Akita's all my adult life and the breeder I got Seigi from had all health and genetic testing, hips, eyes, elbows and heart are all cerified..Thyroid is normal and both parents were not only on premises for me to meet but have champion pedigrees 5 generations back as well as CGC certs. I also got papers on him with full registration. I paid $1,200 for him. I personally would not pay $800 for one a dog with no papers and to no way to verify the health of the parents or meet them. I think that is way to much. Just my personal opinion.

Lived in Japan
I lived in Japan 5 years and it seemed it was about the only breed around where I lived except the Tosa Dog. When I got back to the States, my brother-in-law rescued one from a park in downtown Houston. He was in bad shape but after a ton of Vet bills, he was the sweetest dog ever.
