Default Smaller Breeds & housetraining

In time I will be looking into getting a smaller breed dog.

I am just wondering if there are smaller breeds that are easier to housetrain. I had a Yorkie years ago that was impossible but adorable but I cant live with that for over ten years as I did with her.

I have heard that the Shihzu (cant spell it) is a good dog as far as that goes and with temperament as well. And very cute also. Also, the Papillon is said to be a good dog as well from what I have heard anyway.

Also wondering about the mixes like the cockapoo and the puga poo etc etc.

Right now I am just trying to study the breeds as i am so afraid of making the wrong choice like before. I know that no dog is perfect either and dont expect that.

I am not into giving up my pets and the next one will be it for me. I just want to make the right choice this time around.

I read somewhere that small dogs are harder to potty train because with a big dog you walk to the door with them and let them out. People tend to carry the little ones out so it makes it harder for them to learn to go to the door when they need to go. That makes sense to me. Since then I try not to carry them out the door so they will learn faster where to go.
I also train my little ones to use puppy pads for those times when the weather is too nasty to send them out.
The bad thing about that is I put the pads down for my little 3 # yorkie pup and my collie pup sees them use it and she does too. Wasnt exactly what I had in mind for her lol.

yea Im still trying to figure out how the whole thing is going to work out.. I mean I would like to train him to go in the box (ill probably have to put him in to do that)..but it wouldnt hurt to teach him to go outside too..

ive never trained a puppy before so this should be interesting

Ive seen the puppy pads that are scented but if I have the box would I still need the pads?

My Jack wasn't hard to housetrain because of her size, but because she's the most stubborn thing in the world!

I tried to get one of my yorkies to use a litter box - didnt work out cause she would dig in it and throw it out of the box. She wasnt too good at using the puppy pads either. She would just shred them. She is good about going out though. My other pups use the puppy pads just fine and go outside as well.
The one that is 2 years old now is the only one I couldnt get to use the pads or litter box very well.
Good luck - hope it works out for you.

Okay, this is really funny, but when I was struggling with housetraining Phoebe, a coworker said she used to put diapers on her dog during the day. So I tried it, too. Phoebe ripped them off in about 28 seconds. She did not like the diapers one bit.

I have a miniature dachsund that never potty trained right, but all of the ones I have had before her did perfect. We also had a Lhasa Apso (don't know if that is spelled correctly) that was very smart. He never had an accident.
