Dog breeds you would never own
We have all specified what dog breeds we love and why. But, do you have a specific breed, or breeds you would never consider owning, and why?

I don't like small, yappy dogs, so Chihuahuas are out of it for me, although I did see a Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix that was one of the cutest puppies I've ever laid eyes on. I also wouldn't go for a Sharpei (too many skin problems) or a Saint Bernard, just because of its size. I'm more of a midsize dog kinda person.

I wouldn't have a poodle. I love smaller dogs, but don't think I would ever own one unless it was a pug or hairless chinese crested.

I would never consider having a dog like a Siberian Husky, or other long haired dog, that would suffer in a hot region.

I would never ever get a pure bred poodle or shitzu. They just seem so.. stuffy and upper-crust. I like large affectionate dogs more, like Labrador Retrievers. I wouldn't have the time for their hair maintenance anyway. Right now we do have a poodle-shitzu mix, but Bogart was a gift and was so cute when he was just a puppy that we couldn't turn him down!

Dogs I'd never own...easy answer.
Here's 2 great rules-of-thumb that just came to mind to answer that question:
1) Anything small enough or light enough to tempt you to put it on your lap WHILE you're DRIVING driving should be avoided like the plague! It'll get you killed and probably some other poor schmo as well!
2) Any dog that is arrogant enough to believe it has a right to actually TAKE that spot on your lap while you are driving has far too much ego! And, if that is the case, it's really telling you that you are an irresponsible master and have taught your dog that IT is the Alpha in your "pack," not you!!! So, you probably shouldn't even have a dog.

I know people say they can be trained better, but I would never have a Rottweiler because I read too many stories of them biting kids.

I love small dogs. I love lap dogs. I love hairy dogs :-) So I don't want big and hairless dogs! Haha. Seriously, I don't want to have a Doberman, German Shepherd and other scary looking dogs. I'm scared of them myself. The big dogs that I like are Rottweiler and Labrador Retriever.

Boxers and pugs...though they are cute, I do not think I could put up with hearing that snorting breathing all the time!

I had a Siberian Husky once, I got her at an animal shelter. She was way too active -as the breed is. She needed much more exercise than I could give her and she finally ran away and I never found her.
I have a Great Pyranees dog and he's pretty hard to handle. He has a mind of his own. He cannot be trusted off-leash,and he's five years old! He just wanders out into the road - not paying attention and he will be hit if we let him roam. So, I do not recommend a Great Pyr for anyone who doesn't want a head-strong dog.
Personally - I don't care for Dachshunds, Cocker Spaniels, Dalmations or Weimeriners. (sp?)
That's just me.
I like large dogs better than small ones - but they are harder to bath and since I have so many pets - I can't always afford to have them professionally groomed every month.

I would never have a pit bull; 1) because the laws here are almost to the point of banning the breed & 2) they have such a bad reputation. I know that most of the time, they were either trained to attack or weren't trained not to attack. But either way, I still wouldn't have one because I have a toddler & a baby on the way. I also wouldn't have any small, yappy dogs because their voices just kill me. My friend has a Chihuahua mix & he drives me crazy with his barking.

Rottweilers-unreliable?!?!?!?! WOW, that has to be the biggest fallacy I have ever read about the breed. Also, I personally find them GORGEOUS, but I suppose having grown up around one, I might be bias.

My preference are furry dogs at least knee high. So tiny shorthaired dogs would be what I can never imagine myself with*lol* If I must single out specific breeds than any of the hairless ones: the Xoloitzcuintli, Peruvian Inca Orchid, and Hairless Rat Terrier.

I would be afraid to own a small dog for fear I would smoosh it or something getting out of bed in the morning. I LOVE ALL DOGS! But I couldn't have a little one that would get lost under the laundry pile or in the kid's toy box.

I would not want to have any dogs not capable to keep up with me walking in woods and all kind of wild places; any hairless or otherwise incapacitated by whimsikal traits dogs. I strongly prefer dogs capable of work outside, such as hunting, guarding or both. Aboriginal primitive breeds are my favorite breeds.

Everyone has pretty well summed up my views. I don’t care for little yappy dogs (no matter how cute some are). I want my dog to look and act like a dog – not something I carry around in a purse. But on the other hand I’m afraid of rotties and pit bulls which unfortunately most of my neighbors own. I didn’t let my dog socialize with them but I did enroll us in several puppy and obedience classes. I come from a background of German Shepherds so I’ll always have a soft spot for them.

There's a lot of different breeds I wouldn't own for different reasons. I don't like small yappy dogs. I don't like dogs that drool a lot. I also don't like dogs that require a lot of maintenance for their skin/coat. LOL So that leaves out St. Bernards, Chihuahuahs, Sharpeis, Chow Chows...LOL

Like Sargeisincharge said, I couldn't have a little dog because I'd always be afraid of hurting it or stepping on it or something. :???: So I would never have a toy dog.

LOL Yet another reason why I couldn't have a small dog.
