Default Help

Hello, im looking for the right breed of dog for me, i would love to do agility and training with my dog and want quite a active breed, i did look at getting a Border Collie but thought they might be a bit to active, i love herding dogs but i dont no if i could cope with the huge active side of them, please help!

i actually have a dog magazine with an article about the top ten agility dog breeds... i'll list them in order for you

border collie
australian shepherd
shetland sheepdogs.. smaller, but more docile, and very athletic
jack russel
lab
golden
german shepherd
belgian tervuren
cocker spaniel
pembroke welsh corgi

but really, agility is the most wordly sport for dogs.. practically any dog that you want could compete.. you should base your decision more on the personality that fits you

Hi I do agility with my amazing Standard poodle, she is incredibly active when out at agility and walks and runs about 4 times a week with my partner, very sociable and good natured and when at home just loves to curl up on her bed or someones lap if they will let her!! There is a lot of grooming involved but you don't get any hair shedding which is a great advantage, she is about the size of a doberman, so a fairly large dog but they do come a bit smaller I just happened to get a jumbo one! Enjoy your agility it is a fantastic sport and keeps both owner and dog really fit!

All the best Lilly pup

How about a Lab or a Pointer? They are extremely active and fun loving dogs.

A Miniature schnauzer could be an option.....

my own is very active and flys through the air because he gets a great running jump with his long legs...I have a hard time keeping up with him when he finds something interesting to go after.

He is extremely smart....it amazes me when I use words that he recognizes...!!! the look in his eyes are saying "common I hear you lets go!" and his yelping tells me the same thing.

Very talkative...they let you know what they are thinking and when the want more....

They are a small/medium size dog so they aren't too overpowering....their legs are taller then the are long or wide.
