Question ANy Ideas on the breed of our puppy?

Hi All

New to the forum and i think its awesome!!

We got our puppy about a month ago from the local pound. They told us she was a 4-5 mth old mastiff x staffy. The local council picked her up roaming the streets and gave her to the pound but no one claimed her so they have classed her as a stray with no details. She has just about lost all her baby teeth now.

My brother and i think she looks more like a ridgeback. She has a dark strip of fur along her back from neck to tail about 2 inches wide. A couple of people at work agree and another lady said she looks like she has boxer in her.

I've attached some photos of her - some aren't too good (I'm great if you have a pc or internet problem but when it comes to cameras....!!!!). The one of her with her back turned is in the car on my camera phone! I jus think its too cute not to include!!!

Anyway any ideas on what she might be would be grateful

Hi. Congrats on your new pup. Gee.....it's hard to say? I'm surprised the shelter said Mastiff....I don't see it. How big is she? Look at her front paws....are they a pretty good size? This generally means a bigger breed. It's hard to say if you don't know how many breeds were mixed into the parents. I can see why someone might say Boxer...she does have the coloring...head shape maybe when she's older....How's her personality? That couls give you a clue too. Try looking at photos on the web...just type in "dog breed photos" and you'll get lots of sites such as "nextdaypets.com" with great pics and color/coat/temperment etc.. descriptions. You could use that to rule some out and narrow it down a bit. Either way she's cute one!!Good Luck!!

She's pretty hyper/clumsy and barks at you when she wants to have her own way. She's about 50cm tall. I did see a dog on the web who looked a lot like her and they were pretty sure he was a ridge/boxer. Thanks

Red face Thanks for all the replies!! :)

Hey to all!!

I have updated some of the photos now she's grown a bit more - sorry dumdog1964 but she wont stand still long enough to get a photo of her next to the car - she either sits down thinking she's in trouble or runs off !!! So i made her lie down in front of our 180cm tall x 140cm wide Christmas tree so you can kinda get an idea of how long she is. She stands about 60-70cm tall from top of her head to floor and about 55cm from mid-back to floor.

All her baby teeth have gone now so am guessing she'd be coming up to about 6mths.

Very leggy and tall and not much muscle if you know what i mean - not solid like a rotti or mastiff.

They cant tell me where they picked her up from - the council found her as stray. But there are a lot of staffies/greyhounds/collies/mastiffs/pitbulls/bull arabs around the gold coast - its pretty much either that or a lap dog - few rotties as well.

She likes to have her mouth open when playing like she wants to bite but doesn't in the end just ends up licking or holding your hand in her mouth and oh yea she likes slapping with the front paws!!!

The colored bit down her back only stands on end if really excited playing with other dogs. Otherwise just a different color nothing special.

She doesn't have wirey stiff hair its quite soft and thick but very sparse on her belly.

I don't know if this means anything but she only has the 5th du-claw on her front legs not her back - my old dog had all 4 and she was mastiff/pitbull/weimeraner??

I honestly dont see any mastiff in her and dont know why the pound said that !! They had a 3 year old mastiff there when we picked her up and she looks nothing like it!!! She doesn't even drool that much whereas my old dog always drooled!!

Anyways, thanks again for all the input and have an awesome Christmas and New Year!!!

Default I would say part Great Dane

She has the look of a Great Dane or part one. Her face is not quite a dane but her lean body type and short hair look a lot like a dane.

Thats what a friend from work said when she saw a picture of her - my friend had purebreed boxer few years ago. My mother also said same thing!!

Trying to figure out the other is the hard part. She has gotten heaps bigger and has filled out more now. Her neck is a good 20cm already and she's only just had her 8 month birthday!!
