Default Ear Cropping

I am a big opponent of ear cropping. I am not sure why people do it except for looks. I understand the history of ear cropping and the reasons behind it no longer are valid.

Isn't a little odd that most breeds that have their ears cropped are German in origin? Dobies, Boxers, Great Danes.

Default I completely agree

Cropping of the ears made sense when the dogs primary purpose will make those ears susceptible to injury. Like in the case of the Great Dane. Originally War Dogs and then adapted for hunting larger size game, like wild boars. The boars tusks would catch on the ears and that is why they started cropping the ears on Great Danes.

I find it difficult to believe that some people still try to make the argument that it is in the dogs best interest. I find that hard to believe as labs have just as many problems with their ears and I have never seen a lab with cropped ears.

I don’t see any thing in ear cropping, if done carefully, For those who crop their pet ears, there is a unique and interesting site. At Medical Tools instruments are top quality and competitive too. Whenever I’ve to buy a product I visit http://www.medical-tools.com/eshop/ for comprehensive veterinary instruments, it’s a pretty good place to shop I highly recommend it for anyone with even a passing interest in surgery.

You can find ear cropping clamps for Terrier, Pit-bulls and schnauzer breeds and complete toolkit for ear cropping

my catch dogs all have there ears cropped my inside dogs don't the only reason i have found to crop the ears is for the dogs protection . hints why my dogs ears are cropped and they wear cut vest when there catching hogs for there safety any other reason would have to be for looks but honestly i dont want there ears cropped if there not working dog . mostly do to the reason they can receive injury infection and get trash in there ears which can cause damage to the animal . so i say if your not using them for hogs ect dont crop the ears
