NOT a dacshund. if you can afford a yorkie terrier, they are great! find a breed you had as a child and see if you can find a "toy" version of that dog!one ideal is a toy breed spaniel, they bark but so do chihuahuas!

I'd go for a toy or teacup poodle. I have one and they arent as fiesty as chihuahuas and are os much cuter. And if oyu are worried about shedding poodles dont shed.

There are several good choices....but it depends on if you want a lap dog or an active dog. I have 4 small dogs....I have a Chihuahua....very much a cuddle bug...I have a Mini Pincher...he's alittle high strung and has jealousy issues...I have a terrier....she's a cuddler, loves her mommy, she's protective, but she needs exercise...she loves to run and play...and then I have this little dog that I found, she's full grown, about a year old but I couldn't say what breed she is, she looks like my mini pincher in the face...but she's smaller than my chihuahua......i think that all breeds have breed traits...but each dog has it's own individual personality. When you go looking for a pup, don't choose it because you think it's cute, spend some time with it and pay attention to it's personality.......the more playful it is, the more likely it will be the kind of dog that likes to play and go for walks and such.....in closing...dogs are wonderful companions, they are always there for you.....i love cats too, but cats are so independent and stuck up...lol...happy dog hunting....you can contact me on messenger if you need anything else. Lani

A pug. Pugs are loving caring and sooo ugly thier cute. I have 2 pugs and they are the type of dog that is very smart and calm. Unlike chihuahuas they hardly ever bark and all they want to do is cuddle. Research them on the akc website. They will not lie. Good luck!!!!

Well a Yorkshire terrier or a Maltese, maybe a Shitzu. The Yorkie I know is quite a yapper, which means it barks quite alot. but they are not aggressive, I have seen a Yorki, my relatives have one and they are very cute and friendly!

It depends on how active you are. Many small dogs can not handle rigorous exercise/activity. If you want a dog that will just lay around and not need much exercise, don't buy a Terrier! I have a Jack Russell, and he is the greatest dog ever! Up for anything, will follow me through fire. Very loyal and loving, sits on my lap for hours at home, but as soon as I get up to go somewhere, he's ready for action. If you are active/athletic I would definitely get a Jack. They will keep you on your toes and keep you fit, but they love to be loved.

Yorkshire terriers are smaller than chihuahuas and they are nicer too! The smallest dog to ever exist was a 3/4 pound tea cup Yorkshire terrier. They love to cuddle, be walked, and they show lots of love!

I would recommend yorkies. But I would stay away from the "teacups." When breeders start to breed dogs trying to get teacups that is when the dogs start to have health problems. A normal yorkie should be between 5-7 lbs when it is full grown. They are great with kids, other pets, and they don't shed. They are very smart and easily housebroken.
