There may be breeds that include a black spot on the tongue as part of the breed standard, and thus a dog without this mark would not be conforming. But you can't assume the reverse is true, as clearly some breeds do NOT have black spots. And even if you see a black spot on a breed that requires one, it could just be luck, and the dog may still be a mix.

My mother is a dog breeder and seeing as many full bred dogs as i have i don't believe that is true. i have seen dogs with black dots on there tongues but i don't believe they have to be full bred to have a dot on there tongues.

I've not heard that before. What I have heard is that it's a solid indicator of a chow mix. Chow Chows apparently have either completely black or purple tongues. My puppy has a black spot on her tongue. However, her looks and behaviors are breed specific to Labrador Retrievers, which is what she is.......mixed with chow though.

No.Any color on the tongue can be indicative of certain breeds or a mixture including certain breeds such as chow.

No. But two dog breeds do require a full black tongue to be considered a pure bred, a chow and a shar pei.

no i don't think so. dogs with black on their tongue or in their mouths might have chow in them. really, breed isn't such a big deal unless your looking to show. i've found that mutts make better dogs also adopted dogs tend to love more. it's almost like their thanking you for not caring who their parent's are.

No this is not true. If the dogs mouth is black aka its gums and the top part of its mouth then it is a full bred.

No. Our local shelter is full of various types of mixed-breed dogs with one or more black dots on their tongues.

in most cases a pure bred will haev a completely black tongue and a mixed breed will be either fully pink or pink with black spots. this depends on the breed of course.
