Small dog! Maybe a terrier of some sort. Jack Russels are good, they don't take up much space and they can handle the activities and attention of a 9 year old.

Something small. And you have to train it. No matter how small the animal, it can be aggressive and dangerous--especially with kids.Make sure you know what you're getting yourself into, but at the same time dogs are greatttt!P.S. If you get a larger dog, prepare for a lootttt of walking and exercise and discipline.

Cocker Spaniel is an excellent breed for Children...they are easy to train and well behaved. Our kids were raised with a Siberian Husky and a Golden Retriever...they are also VERY "Child friendly", but you must have a lot of room and place for them to walk and exercise.

it depends on what you're looking for. What are your needs in the dog. Is your daughter trust worthy enough to know how to handle a smaller dog. Do you want a dog who sheds little to none. Yes? Get anything mixed with a yorkie, poodle or cocker spaniel. Because you live in an apt. i would not suggest a beagle. They're more howler like than barkers. Either way it will be annoying for your neighborsWant a bigger dog that is child friendly? I suggest a lab or golden retriever

my opinion is a German Shepperd they are also known as police dogs i even had one of my own. they are really nice and listen to you all the time well actually most of the time. or another suggestion would be a golden retriever i also had one of them to i love how they play but you have to keep them attention or else they will runaway

I defiantly wouldn't go with a small dog around children. They are unpredictable and can be very snippy. They are more likely to bite than a large dog would. Breeds like poodles, shitzous, and other toy dogs are high strong which translates into very little tolerance for small children, or any children for that matter.Boxers are excellent family dogs. They are very loyal and love children. The only thing is they needs tons of exercise. So if you don't have a yard you need to be prepared to take it out for walks at least once a day if not more. And have a ball handy for fetch in the house too. It will keep you child's energy level at check too.
