Default I am wanting a dog. I love large breeds.

whats best? mastiff? dane? wolf hound? or mabey another? I love big dogs. I had a mastiff in the past. Thought I might get something else this time around. I live alone although my girlfriend does have a young child that comes over sometimes. So defintly a breed that gets along with kids etc.

I would recommend Jindo dogs....They can be trained to be very friendly (mine was VERY friendly), but if you don't want to go with risks, get a golden retriever, as they are VERY children-friendly.But definitely check out the Jindo dogs!

Great Danes make wonderful pets. They are very gentle by nature. My sister has one and he is a love. The only thing is that Great Dane need to be keeped inside during extreme weather, because they do not have the coat or body fat to regulate their body temperature. They are great house dogs... Calm, sweet, loving and eager to please....And don't require a lot of exercise...

i have 2 dobermans with my male weighing over 100# at 10 months. he is very playful with my 6 year old grandaughter and is really alot of fun. he loves to play and we enjoy watching to see what he will do next. he is very easy to train and learned to open the back door by himself at an early age. good luck with whatever dog you get.

Out of big dogs I would say boxer bulldogs. They love kids and adults alike.

Do your research on any of them and remember... Large breeds do not live as long as smaller dogs. They can also suffer from al lot more ailments as well. I would suggest you go to a few dog shows and talk to some breeders. That is what I did before I brought home my two Bloodhounds and it made a world of difference. The best dog owners are educated dog owners...

You should do some serious research it is more important that their tempermant and needs match your life style than the size

I too am looking for a big dog. I was seriously looking at tosa inus. just need to know if they will be accepted in my neighborhood and state. (homeowners association is a pain some time) they are illegal in some states I hear. whatever. the only downside to this is I would have to adopt it from overseas. UNLESS there are some legit pure breeders out there in the states. I have read the history of this dog, along with some updated information. they seem to be very patient, quiet, LOYAL, brave, high tolerance for pain(just in case your girlfriend's daugther pulls his tail), etc. just a thought, dude!

i love boxers mine have always been good with children. one of my older sisters has Danes and she has 2.5 children. and they kids love the dogs now but when she first brought home the full grown dog they where afraid of him. he was a little big for them but if you start out with a puppy (of any breed) they will will grow and learn with the child, as well as you.

You have alot of choices when you're looking for a large breed that is good with kids, but tell me, do you have preferences when it comes to upkeep? Some large breeds like Standard Poodles require frequent grooming. But they're great with kids, and they don't shed either. Great Dane's are so mellow and calm around people and kids and they are so large they look like they should wear a saddle blanket and sleep in a stall....I have a Golden Retriever and she is magically good with kids. Naturally submissive to everyone and anything. A small child could grab an ear or a tail (not that that's a good thing, but it happens) and my Golden would let it fly without a reaction. Goldens are as a breed, very loving and very playful. They need to be walked and they love to swim and they mesh into the family very easily- great personalities. Just give them alot of stuffed animals and some dog cookies and you've got a good dog....Mastiffs are really cute pups but they drool and I hate drool Good luck! I am sure whatever you choose you'll love.

My favorite breed is Terra Nova or Newfoundland. And it definetely loves children. You should have appropriate space for it though.

I love all large breeds. However if you want the Apollo of dogs then it's an easy answer. Magnificent to look at and great with kids. I have two kids and two great Danes and they are fantastic with them. I recommend a "European" style( otherwise known as "old" style). They are a little more stout with a bigger boxier head. Victory Danes in Georgia has some of the best looking Danes I have ever seen. As others have mentioned there are some health concerns but if you get a good quality dog from a great breeder then you should have minimum issues. Look into something called "bloat" ( when their stomach twist ) there are ways to help minimize the risks of your Dane getting it. Enjoy your new pup whatever you decide.

I agree with Chetco here...I would personaly go with the Great Pyr. The Danes are good, but they seem to have more physical problems.
