That is an odd question, because it doesnt depend on what breed it is. It depends on the dogs personality, but here are a few kinds of good breeds...1. Labrador Retriever2. Great Dane3. Shitzu4. German Shephard

I'd say Shih Tzus are at the top of the list. A little stubborn sometimes, but very smart.

German Shepards. Britany Spear's guard dog was a German Shepard and responded to orders in English, German, and Spanish . And had the incredible ability to learn at a fast pace.

Any dog can be smart if you work with it, and spend time. I have a chocolate lab, and she's one smart dog. We duck hunt with her, and she sits, lays down, ducks her head, and retrieves by hand signals. She hides in the duck blind until we fire, stays even though there are ducks falling, and waits for her command to go and get them. Now, I'd like to see a poodle do that.

While breed does have an effect on intelligence its not the only factor, however I would have to say herding breeds such as Border Collies, German Shepherds and others are the most intelligent breeds, they have to be in order to follow a large amount of commands, but more importantly be independent thinkers in order the manage the herd.Note smart pets don't always make the best pets because you not only have to be physically stimulated, but mentally stimulated otherwise they can become board and find their own ways to satisfy these needs often getting in to trouble.
