Default Dog Breeds?

Hello, my husband and I are looking into buying a new puppy, but we are unsure of what breed to buy. We like chows, chihuahuas, puggles, etc. But I was just wondering if anyone could give me some ideas of more breeds, that are GOOD with kids, not too hyper, don't shed too much, and are not too big because we have an apartment. Thank you for your time and answers!!

we have a beagle, she is great with our daughter and all she does it lay around all day. They have short fur so there is no need for grooming.

I would avoid Chows. They can be aggressive and shed a lot seasonally. We had one for 13 years.

Dogs are good with kids because the dogs and the children are trained to deal with each other! That being said, smaller dogs tend to be a bit nippier and often more fragile to children's rough hands and play. I'd suggest a standard poodle, and they don't shed, are a good size, are intelligent and sweet. Check out the AKC for breed standards, or dog clubs for more info. Often breed rescue sites have excellent descriptions of the breed's typical behaviour, etc. to inform people wanting to adopt them. Good luck!

If you want a dog with character, check out some terrier breeds. Theyre always full of fun & great with kids.

I think a English Bulldog would do good for you, good companionship, English Bulldogs are a a little hyper and energized when there young, but they will relax and calm down as they get older. There friendly and good with kids, and make good companions.

Boston terriors are good. They are expensive becasue their heads are too big when thy're born so they have to go cesarian, but they are good dogs.

The dog I had was an Miniture Yorkshire Terrior. I had two a male & female. They had three litters. Anywayz, they are definity good with children. If you get them why they are younger, you can train them better.

nothing better than an australian shepherd. they are a medium-sized dog but extrememly easy to train, since they like to please people. also, if you spay or neuter them, they will never shed. they are very cute as puppies as well, and great with kids. like all dogs, they should get about 1 1/2 hours of exercise every day. however, aussies will never beg to go out. but PLEASE don't get a chow dog! they are the weirdest looking, worst behaved dogs on the planet. i should know...

I am looking to purchase a dog too. Since i have been looking i have been researching various dog breeds. The best one that i came up with was the german schnauzer. They are very protective, they do not shed, and they do not carry the doggy odor. They are also very loyal dogs but they must be socialized very well. You can get those in different sizes but they can be expensive.

I agree with everyone... stay away from chows for the maintenance, your smaller breeds that are good with kids and apts are shelties, golden retriever ( medium), beagle, and the idea of a shelter is great. You can take your kids to be involved in the process of picking a dog. Good luck on your search!

Hi, I Have A Puggle And She Is Awesome... She Is Very Loving And Affectionate, And Loves To Play. She Requires Alot Of Our Attention. She Doesn't Shed A Ton Until She Goes For A Ride In My Car And Gets Her Hair All Over My Black Cloth Seats. She's A Great Dog But Likes To Be Center Of Attention. Chows Are To Big For A Apartment I Think. Although I Think A Pug Is Good For You B.c They Are Not Realy High Strung And Are Semi Lazy Which Is Good For A Apartment. They All Require Walking, And My Puggle Could Walk All Day Long. She Really Likes To Tear Ass Around The Back Yard To Burn Off Steam After Being In The House All Day. Best Of Luck.. You Should Check Out Petfinder.com It Will Search For A Animal Anywhere Within Your Area Needing A Good Home. Unfornately There Are Many Looking For A Good Home. I Used The Site And Hear Very Good Things About It. ~crystal~
