Default How long can I expect my small dog (she is mixed breed) to live?

She is now close to 7 years old, she is very active and playful, and doesn't really show signs of old age. I have herd small dogs don't live as long as larger dogs.

I had a mixed small dog, she lived to be 12. Looks like you have a lot of years left. She was an indoor dog.

Nobody can predict how long any one dog will live, but as a rule, small breeds live a lot longer than big ones. The lifespan of a Lab may be around 12 years (I think) but a Chihuahua could live 16 or more. I had a Chihauha/Terrier mix that lived to be over 20.

This is a myth. It all depends on the care you give them. Most dogs of any breed live to about 13 or 14.

It depends on the breed. A small dog like a Jack Russell for instance can live for anything between 12 to 14 years.

In my experience, small dogs live longer than large dogs. I had a miniature poodle that died at 21; my mom had one that died at 18. I knew a chihuahua that died at 22.The average dog is supposed to live 15 years. My greyhound died at 15.Giant dogs, like the Great Dane, live even shorter lives.English pugs, which are small, don't live as long as the average dog, though.

Hi. I'm new to this. Today is my very first day on here. However, I know alot about dogs. I just receive a small tea cup yorkie. But before her I have several other small dogs. It only lays within you and how long your small dog can live. I know that 12-13 yrs a small dog can live. Just keep attending to your small dog. Stay up on the shots and watch he or she live up to that amount of years. You are your small dog hope! Ok so do not allow anyone to tell you that your small dog isn't going to live for a long period of time. Stay on the best dog food you can find. Do not change as much. If you really have to change; please do it only once. The more he or she gets tame to the food the more stronger they will become. Beleive it or not lots of love keep a small dog going... My small dog is to the point she smiles everyday. Have you even seen a dog smile before?
