She is now close to 7 years old, she is very active and playful, and doesn't really show signs of old age. I have herd small dogs don't live as long as larger dogs.

Ok so do not allow anyone to tell you that your small dog isn't going to live for a long period of time. Stay on the best dog food you can find. Do not change as much. If you really have to change; please do it only once. The more he or she gets tame to the food the more stronger they will become. Beleive it or not lots of love keep a small dog going...
