I would call myself a small dog person at this point in my life. As soon as I am able, I plan on getting a miniature longhaired dachshund. The mother of a fellow groomer I work with breeds them, and I have met quite a few. She has placed dogs in homes with special-needs children, elderly people, and the "nuclear family" type of home. They aren't too small, and not too big. Don't get me wrong: I like big dogs! I just wouldn't own one at this time. One of my favorite dogs that I have had for grooming in the past was a huge show-type Saint Bernard. She is the sweetest thing and will give you kisses with her giant pink tongue and slobber all over your face! I just don't have the space or the tolerance for constant drooling to own a dog like that. Other breeds I really like: Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, some Westies, Great Danes, and some other individual dogs that I just like for their personalities rather than their breed characteristics. Actually, some of the nicest dogs I've met, their owners don't even know what kind of dog they are! One dog that I've had as a customer before looks like a cross between a Scottie and maybe a Bassett Hound. He's probably 40 pounds, short legged, semi-pricked ears, wiry hair, and a rotund shape. I'm pretty baffled about his true heritage, but as long as he's sweet, I don't care what breed he is!

Well my favorite dog just happens to be a peke. I'm not sure that they are my favorite "breed" but this one has my heart. He is quiet, and loving, and fits in with our
family so well; Doesn't snap, NEVER even barks; Greets visitors but only in a polite interested manner, no jumping. He sits perfectly still to be bathed and groomed. Is a big baby. On the flip side, he is stubborn. Doesn't come when called; Can seem very aloof at times when he wants. Has no interest in toys, will occasionally tug on a sock if he is in the mood. He is completely potty trained and has the best manners in that area. Has never had one accident in our house. He likes time by himself and will, like a cat, go off on his own and just nap. Most of the time you would not know that we even have a dog unless he wants you to know it. I can't imagine how we got along without him. Whether he is typical of the pekingese breed I cannot say as he is the first that I have owned. However, if this is a pekingese, then my favorite breed is a peke. But there are so many wonderful animals to love it is difficult to try to pick one. Each one is beautiful and wonderful in their own way.

I'm with you, Shih Tzu Lover! I love all dogs, but I favor the Shih Tzu. Gus and Belle are both Shih Tzu. They're both fixed, however, because I can't see myself adopting out the puppies, and I can't afford 7 dogs... ha ha.

have pit bull types that I keep not as pets.

Some of the pit bull pet owners are not listening to the facts and are living in fantasy land. Your constant harping on about "it's all the way you bring a dog up" is starting to hurt the breed in a bad way. Your constant denial of dog genetics having a heavy influence on behavior is becoming dangerous. I have owned over 20 pit bulls for around 20 years. I have worked them. I know what I am talking about and am sick of the garbage some pit bull pet "housewife" pet owners spew. It is leading to resentment from the non pit bull owning community. Truth is the best policy.

Most of the public (give them more credit they are not completely stupid!) is aware that "pit bulls" do not attack anymore than other dogs, but are saying that they create more damage and when the attack happens and it is more prolonged AND DETERMINED than with other dogs. The problem for the pit bull is happening because of all the idiot housewife pet owners that are subscribing to the "it's all the way you raise them theory".
Pit bull dawgs were used for fighting other animals including WAIT FOR IT !!!!!! Bears and HUMANS. YES BEARS AND HUMANS.
Yes pit bull dawgs were also used for human baiting with success.
As for American pit bull well Diane Jessup the so called "house wife expert" and Ceasar Millan claim that "pit bulls" are less aggressive to humans because the human aggressive ones were not tolerated by dog fighters in the pit; for fear that they would turn on their master in the pit. Ha ha ha what a load of baloney. Most of the most famous AMERICAN pure pit bull terriers are descended from VERY human aggressive dogs that were well know for attacking their owners and even jumping the pit and attacking spectators. There you go Diane Jessup and Richard Stratton the( gurus of the pit bull house wives) talking baloney (or maybe telling lies) by saying the pit bull was de-selected for man aggression. That is complete garbage and most of you sucking it up.
Pit bulls have no place in a pet home. Leave pit bulls for people that use them for hunting and live in the mountains etc. They have no place in the surburban communities of the USA, if you like them then move house and live deep in the countryside like I do. Keep them away from little kids, just like you would if you were keeping and raising a wolf. If you take them for a walk in the public park GET A MUZZLE YES DON'T SELFISH PEOPLE.
The safety of humans and other people's pets is MORE IMPORTANT than you being able to keep this FIGHTING AND BAITING breed in you
