De clawing is not as common down here as it once was, but many still are done. I have only owned 2 in my lifetime and that was at the request of my ex. I was totally against it. I have 11 cats today, none are de clawed and outside of the rare occurrence I do not have really any problems with my furniture. Manx's prefer wood over material. The scratching posts are usually annihilated
within the first few days as far as the carpet goes so they can get to the wood.

I love all dogs, but I am partial to toys and terriers. My favorites would be...
Maltese (I'm biased since I have one)
Chinese Crested (I would love one someday)
Westie (my grandparents had one when I was little, and I loved playing with her whenever I went to their house)
Poodle (I like them in all sizes, but standard ones are my favorite)
Old English Sheepdog (I would never be able to own one because of the hair and activity level, but I think they're stunning)
Papillon
Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier
Airedale Terrier
Yorkie
Bichon Frise
Miniature Schnauzer
Pomeranian

Great Danes. They are so big and so needy. They are very affectionate and social. I am huge fan of the breed.

Mine would have to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Mostly because that was the breed of my very first dog. She's so smart and the sweetest thing ever.

I must be in the minority but I don't have a favorite. Although I tend to hold a soft spot for the breeds I owned or known well but aside from that, one isn't above the rest for me.

My favorite breed of dogs?
i like all kind of dogs, but i have fallen in love with my Dog (of course), she is a pitbull mix. She is very sweet, smart, super loyal, and very playful.
The other breed is the Cardigan Corgi...lord what intelligent dogs they are. I met one ( R.I.P Petey) He was supper smart, and super lovely, and super cute.
My other fave one is the Great Pyrenees, they can be super loyal!

German Shepherds
Beautiful looking dogs especially the ones with fire red hair. Love long haired ones as well. I have a normal and a long hair one.

My fav. dog breed is the golden retriever. So sweet and cuddly. But energetic. I have on and it's got the sweetest face when we leave it alone. He hates squirrels and anything that moves. He has quite the mean face too. But he's a teddy bear at heart He loves anything that squeeks and I taught him shake a paw. Now when you don't pet him he paws you and likes you. He knows how to force you to pet him. The golden retriever can be described easily with 3 words. Intelligent. Loving. And Furry. In spring you can brush him every day and in fall you can still be pulling the fur out!

GREAT PYRENEES!!!
They are so extremely loyal, loving, protective, smart, gentle... I could just go on and on! My husband and I decided to get a Great Pyrenees for our home to have as a personal protection dog. (I spend a lot of time alone because he is an OTR trucker driver and we have a convicted rapist living across the street.) We researched this breed extensively for several months before we made the committment to get one and now we have two! lol Getting a Pyr has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. My Angel and Ratchet do not leave anything to the imagination as to their ability to protect their "flock". I love my "babies" with all my heart!

I just found this thread, and even though its older, I would like to respond.
I have to say Border Terriers, since we have just got ourselves a Border Terrier pup, and the reason we chose that breed, is because they have great personalities, are so much fun to work with, very clever, and can walk for miles. (This suits us because we camp and walk a lot)
When I was growing up, I always wanted a long haired German Shepherd, famed for their loyalty and intelligence. Instead I grew up with a Cocker Spaniel, an Old English Sheepdog, and a Black Labrador. All of them great dogs!

I like Labrador Retrievers, we currently have 2. I've also had different types hounds which are cool dogs too. My kids have mixed breed and they also have great personalities.
I would have to say that I like them all.
