Default I want another purebred dog to breed with my 1yr. old male Chinese Shar-pei....

...Where can i find another breeder? Well, my dog is also a purebred. My mom really wants to get our dog fixed, but i've said many times that he's young and has a long way to go. At least give it a try and if it doesn't work out then i guess we can just get him fixed. I've viewed how much Chinese Shar-pei's can cost. And it's a lot. I also understand that to become a breeder, you can't "just" be in it for the money. I live in west TN and am wondering how i can find a nearby breeder.Iam Mom to Vonna. She has been very dedicated to her Shar Pei as have I. He was very easy to housebreak as I had the patience and time. The reason I have suggested neutering our pet is it has been suggested to me that he will be a much calmer dog. He is not aggressive and lives happily with a naughty ferret and a bossy chihuahua. I was raised on a farm and we bred top hunting dogs. We were always quick to take in stray and famished animals. So no one can give my daughter more advise about unwanted pets than I. It is more helpful when you stick to the subject when dealing with teenagers. She has done her research well and understand that he can not be bred with just any dog. She already has a list of more than 15 wonderful pet lovers who are interested in owning a Shar Pei. They have full knowledge of the breed and are in a position to care for them. However I do not part with animals well and I am not sure she would part any better. My mind is not totally made up. Thank You

Unless your dog is a champion or of exceptional bloodlines then most owners of females will not be willing to breed to your dog. In order to become a breeder, you must study the breed and it helps to own a female. You must love the breed and want to breed the best possible dogs. Go back to your breeder and ask about the quality of your Shar-pei. If you did not get him from a breeder, find a local dog show and go and introduce yourself. Look at the otherShar-pei's and measure the quality of yours to what is being shown. Neutering your dog early will keep him healthier in the long run as the chances of cancer in un-fixed animals is staggeringly high.

my thoughts on this are....1st are you willing and able to test both dog and bitch for any/all possible genetic problems (this would mean not being able to breed them until both are at least 2yrs old as you cannot OFA for hip/elbows till 2) (and this i deem a higher priority than show titles as i have seen too many w/ titles still being bred and having health problems passed on)....2nd making sure that the dogs are a good/excellent "specimen" of it's breed in all ways--temperment, conformation, what they were bred for, etc) (i breed for working ability, not the show ring, so if the parent has no/little instinct in herding they are not used, and in Borders, the working dogs don't much look like the show ring dogs)....3rd handle any crisis that might arise for the female during pregnancy (emergency c-section, eclampsia, mastitis, etc).....4th be willing/able to keep/take back any and all puppies that do not get placed or get returned for whatever reason.....

don't just breed b/c you have the dog/s...make sure they are both very sound and copliment each other well (and getting titles on them is not a bad thing either)
