Genetic research has identified 14 ancient dog breeds, with the oldest being the Chow Chow, Shar Pei, Akita Inu, Shiba Inu and Basenji. These breeds of domesticated dog show the fewest genetic differences from wolves.

Taxonomy wise, I dont think any breeds are closer, genetically wise, breeds that traditionally live near wolves and so have had the chance to interbreed with them may have more similar DNA, as they have had less time to evolve separately Huskies are pretty wolf like!

I think dogs didn't exactly evolve from wolves. They share the same ancestor.Although the husky is a lot more similar in features with wolves they are just as related to wolves as the chiuaua.Atleast, thats what researches show.

that depends on how you look at it. most all dogs came from wolves some time or another but you have to go through a lot of dog breeds to get to that. look at the husky and German Shepperd and some of the chow (big). you will see some similarities. http://www.ualberta.ca/~jzgurski/evo...ution.htmlhope these and other answers help you out.

Akita breeding started out by adding wolf to the Shibu Inu and progressed to adding other breeds to get the American Akita. They have small differences in DNA from wolves.
