Dogs have a heat cycle of 21 days. For the first 7 days they will not breed, for the second 7 the female will stand for a male, then the last 7 days they won't. You could have missed the time that they will breed or it hasn't come yet. When the time comes, if it hasn't already passed, and if the male is mature enough (over a year old) they will work it out. When they do breed they will be stuck together for anywhere from 10 minutes to 30 minutes. This is very uncomfortable for the female so if you can supervise the breeding so that you can hold the male still and keep the female calm in the event that they do breed it would be the best. The advice that was given about euthanizing the puppies is garbage. Please don't consider this and don't take this advice. As an inexperienced breeder you wouldn't know a good puppy from a bad one at birth. Unless they have 5 legs or 3 eyes, there is no reason to put a puppy down at birth and the person that suggested that is way out of line.Good luck!
