Would it be wrong for a person to breed dogs or cats for them to become dinner for
someone else? Wouldn't this be simular to how Cows, Pigs & Chickens are raised and bread to be food.Is there an unspoken rule that says if the animal is cute that eating them is wrong?I wouldn't eat dog or cat myself I'm just wondering what you think.

yes because it is wrong and because the cat or dog didn't do anything to them. and if the person liked eating dogs or cats then they should be in jail.

I will assume this to be a matter of conscience. Many animals are eaten that are "cute". I for one think deer are beautiful animals, and could never hunt them... but people do. Cows...I am sure someone out there has one as a pet and would never eat it. There are cultures that eat cats, cultures that eat dogs and cultures that eat bugs. People eat horses. It's very hard to answer your question, then...

I do not eat cows or pigs so I certainly wouldn't eat a cat or dog. That being said - animals are raised for a purpose - cows are raised for food. They are not endearing creatures - we don't find them good companions and companionship hasn't been a trait we have selectively bred them for.In the case of cats and dogs they are animals which have been selectively bred for companionship traits. They are born trusting us, loving us and wanting to be with people because those are traits we have bred into them. To raise them to eat would be a very dis-social and creepy thing to do , even though as you say we do raise other animals for food. So interesting question - that's what I think

I wouldn't say "cute" has anything to do with it...Long ago, when ancient civilizations were taming animals, they learned pretty quickly which ones are good for certain uses - cows have a high fat content, and give a lot of milk, whereas dogs were always used for utilitarian purposes (treeing/trailing other game animals)).So it was really a matter of ancient civs. getting the most use out of their animals/livestock (like tractors and machinery today, I suppose)

If it's necessary, then no problem. I've probably eaten dog or cat before and didn't know the difference. (if you have ever eaten in a Vietnam restaurant, you have too.) I believe we made it to the top of the food chain to survive, not to coddle our food. (and before anyone yells, I have a dog........as a pet) Asians eat (or ate) dog for one reason only..... the cattle was for work and you don't kill your means to survive.

Funny how people get so upset about people eating cats and dogs but have no problem eating a cheeseburger or leg of lamb or fried chicken.

Why regard some animals as pets and others food?If dogs or cats were treated as bad animals raised for food it would be animal cruelty in all 50 states.People in America look down upon cultures who "allegedly" eat cats and dogs, but cows and pigs are sacred in other societies too,and we eat them.
