Golden Retriever, absolutely unbeatable. Coat takes a lot of work but worth it for such a sensitive, intelligent, biddable companion. Also need company and lots of exercise. Mine's called Gus, short for Augustus (or Fungus depending on whether you talk to me or my son). He lived in a flat with a woman who was at work all day before I got him from the Golden Retriever rescue and was described as a real hooligan called Coke. I thought I'd give him a name to live up to and he's rewarded me a million-fold. Real gentleman, without too much training, just a naturally well-mannered dog once I'd established the ground-rules. My last one (Guy, born 5th November) lived for 16 years (quite a record for a Goldie) and the only word to sum up his character was 'determination', but always with a gentle, respectful nature. The one before that was Angus and he was a really 'responsible' dog, we had him when the children were small and no stranger was ever allowed near them without him being in between. Never been onerous to train any of them, they just seem to know instinctively what is required once you set the standard, been able to stop any of them in their tracks with a single look. I could go on for ever about these marvellous creatures, I adore them.

Chessapeake Bay Retrievers. We have 2, their names are Kai and Mister. (they are often mistaken for Labs, but come in more colors and have curly fur.) Kai is a dark sedge and Mister is a light sedge.
