Default What if a dog has a Umbilical Hernia that is already close, can it be bred or not?

Some people say don't breed it. Some people breeds with a Umbilical Hernia. What if a dog is already close that is 23 months old? Can't feel anything inside, plus it is small not large at all. Between a True Hernia, & a already Close one, what is the difference? Can it be bred or need to be surgical remove? Is it really going to be genetic inherited or not? This is very confusing.

I would not reccomend it at all. A hernia, even a closed one can reopen during labor and will be very painful to the dog. Do you really want to risk it? ASk your vet what they think.

There are a lot more important things to consider than a hernia! Is the dog pedigreed and do you have the registration papers. Are they limited? Can breeding the dog improve the breed in terms of conformation and temperament?Has the dog had hip x-rays, eye certifications, and tests for common genetic issues within the dogs breed? Is there a suitable mate for the dog that meets the same standards?Do you have a WAITING LIST of responsible people to purchase the puppies? Are you financially able to handle breeding emergencies including C-section and emergency care for pups?
