What's the best dog breed?
I am looking into obtaining a dog, and I was wondering if I could get some advice on which breed to research. When I finally get the dog, I will be a high school student at a private school on a few different sports teams. I would like to still have plenty of study time as well as free time to do other things such as watch TV, hang out with friends, etc. I really like dogs that are warm and cuddly but will also play outside in the sunshine. It needs to be able to stay in my room, so it should not require a ton of space at night, as long as I let it run out and about during the daytime. I would also like to be able to take it for a walk every day. Please let me know which of these breeds would best suit my lifestyle:BeagleCavalier King Charles SpanielChihuahuaEnglish Toy SpanielNorfolk TerrierPapillonPoodleTibetan SpanielFeel free to add any extra information you feel is necessary. Also, if there are any other breeds you think I might like, please mention them.

There are online tests to determine the best breed for a given lifestyle. That said, beagles are the best fit for what you are looking for. Their only drawback is that they are intelligent and stubborn, and they tend not to come back when called, so you have to be careful letting them off the leash.

Well from the list you have provided I would say go with the poodle but get a toy poodle because they won't take up as much room as a standard poodle will. Poodle are extremely smart, they love to play, they love to cuddle, they love to go for walks and play outside, but the are perfectly content inside as well and they like to chill by their self sometimes too. I wouldn't suggest leaving a toy poodle outside all day though, they were breed down to be an indoor dog. I think Boxers are awesome dogs too, you could look into them but I don't think it would be the best dog for you at this time in your life. They require alot of time and attention and training. They get pretty big too which is why you must be able to devote the right amount of time to them so that they are properly trained. Very smart, loyal, protective dogs though!

I have a female toy poodle. She is my baby girl. She required more time when she was young, because she was so little, I needed to make sure she was getting enough food. She sleeps in my bed with me every night. She is soooooo cute and at 2-1/2 she it still like a puppy. She weighs 6 lbs and loves to sit on my lap. She also loves to go places with me.

This is not meant to be said in a bad way, but I'd say don't get a dog now. With you being a high school student with a lot of after-curricular activities you're better off waiting until you're a bit more "settled down". You have your studies, sports, hanging out with friends, etc to keep you well occupied and may not have enough time to devote to your dog. How about after high school? Do you plan on going to college? What if it is away at a dorm that doesn't allow pets?Having an 8 year old terrier mix and a newly adopted 4 month old hound/lab mix, I tell you it's a lot of work and dedication, not to mention money for vet visits, shots, sickness, etc.I agree with the poster who suggested possibly volunteering at an animal shelter if you really like being around animals/dogs. I, personally, would really steer you away from getting a dog in your current situation. Having said that, if you still feel that you are ready to take on all of the responsibilities and have the time to train and care for your dog, then I wish you the best of luck with your future dog. Just be prepared with lots of patience and paper towels!
