Default looking for a breed and never had a dog before?

ive never owned a dog before and im looking toward owning one. i was thinking about owning a husky but i heard they cant be trusted off leash and arent really obedient. I want a dog which is obedient since i dont have much experience with dogs, a medium size dog would be ideal since i heard the smalls ones make a lot of noise etc, any suggestions?

http://animal.discovery.com/breedsel...lectorindex.do is a really good tool that you can use to find the right breed. You can always visit your local shelter and spend time with the dogs there and get an idea of what you like. I think most dogs that make a lot of noise are just bored...it's not just the little ones. If you're interested in Huskies you should check this site http://www.shca.org/ and maybe talk to Husky owners.

I would suggest a lab, they are family friendly, and obedient, they are smart, medium size and can be good watch dogs too, just ask my dogs Bob and Sassy, they house break real easy, or can live outside. I wouldn't give up my Sassy girl for any amount of money and I've been offered quite a bit for her, some things just aren't for sale and family is one of them....

I would recommend beagle or beagle/hound mix. Our dog is 15yrs old and has been such a joy to us. She is great with kids and was easy to train . About 6 years ago my Luna smelled a cancerous tumor in my kidney and saved me from certain death. I will forever be grateful to her. She is old now but has been the greatest dog i ever owned.

Please go to your local animal shelter and talk to them. They're around the animals there all the time so they know their personalities. Explain to them what you're looking for in a dog and I'm sure they can match you up with one.

I would love to suggest a rottweiler, but I'm not sure what type of house you have and you have never owned a dog before. Rott's need some space to run and they need a very firm hard. They are obedient, but they need to know you are the master. They can dominate you , if they think you are soft. But they make great companion and family dogs and very protective. They are also patience with children.

I cannot go past a cavalier king charles spaniel (go to a good breeder not a pet store). They love company so if you can get 2 or more, but my dog is fine on his own. I work parttime and he stays inside while i work. They do require a bit of grooming but not a lot (i groom my boy about 10 mins a day , if i get time rather than a big grooming session once a week)...don't feed them too much as they are prone to gaining weight. He doesnt bark a lot and neither did my silky terrier.I have trained my cav to shake hands, hi 5, and ring a bell when he wants to go outside to toilet, so they are quite clever! If you want a best buddy that will always be happy to see you and cuddle up to you every chance it can.....go for a cavalier!!Good luck!
