There really is know clear, precise answer to questions about what dog breeds are better then others. Every individual dog is different.
I have both a britt and a beagle. My beagle is very independent and only comes for affection when he wants to while by britt is very affectionate, constantly wanting to be petted.
They have both been a breeze to work with. My beagle is very food-motivated while my britt is but likes praise too. They are both good, stable dogs for families.
Britts are usually more active then beagles and require a lot of excercise, like long walks or romps in a dog park. Beagles need excercise too but they can get by with slighty shorter walks although neither of these breeds tire easily.
These breeds must be trained so make sure you have the time and energy to devote to training and keeping the dog occupied so they don't get bored. Both these dogs will destroy things if they get bored.
Hope some of this helps
