Default Is there a particular breed of dog that is more affectionate than others?

We had a pit bull mix dog that was extremely affectionate and wanted to cuddle and kiss all the time. Even though he was 85 lbs he thought he was a lap dog. He thought every one that came over was there to see and play with him. He loved people but not other animals. He would ignore them. He was that way his entire life. Some people think the pit bull breed is very affectionate and others think it has something to do with how they are raised. We found him when he was a baby, maybe 4 or 5 weeks old. We want to find another pet that is affectionate and loving and wonder if we should consider another pit bull or pit mix.

dogs don't know what kind they are. it all just depends on their personality. sometimes "killer" pitbulls can be sweeter than poodles or yorkshires. it all depends on what theyve been exposed to and how the dog has been trained.

Honestly all dogs are affectionate. That's what they live for, your unconditional love. No matter what kind of dog you pick it will want your full and undivided attention.

I think you have answered your own question....the fact that you had a mixed breed...and not a pedigree!! Most mutts are more healthy..inteligent..and affectionate. I agree the way you raise a dog makes a difference also.

affection is a 2 way street. most dogs are affectionate if you treat them right. they do have to know who is boss - you ,not them.

I have a husky and he is just like you described your pit bull mix, except he loves other dogs. But he thinks he is a lap dog. I have heard some huskies can be standoffish, but most people I know who have them find them to be very affectionate. Plus they don't bark much (though they do howl when they want to but not often). Anyway, maybe I am biased but I love huskies and think they are so affectionate.

pits can be affectionate and it does have something to do with how they are raised but it also has allot to do with their background (parents) so make sure you know where they cam from. I have a black lab and he is a wonderful dog funny and play full he has a great personality very tolerant with kids and loves my cats (they are not fond of him though :-) other breeds of retriever have very affectionate reputations. Golden retrievers were bred for there intelligence and many are used as guide dogs for the handicapped
