Honestly, there is no right or wrong answer here! The best breed of dog depends on the owner. Everyone has a certain preference and criteria. You just need to sit down and think about the characteristics you would like in a dog, long or short hair, small, medium or large and personality traits. Also, you need to consider a dog that would fit your lifestyle. I would suggest this website: http://www.mydogsbreed.com/Also, here are some books you might want to read:Paws to Consider: Choosing the Right Dog for You and Your Family The Perfect Match : A Buyer's Guide to Dog The Complete Idiot's Guide to Getting and Owning a Dog The Right Dog for You The Complete Dog Book: The Photograph, History and Official Standard of Every Breed Admitted to Akc Registration, and the Selection, Training, Breed The Chosen Puppy : How to Select and Raise a Great Puppy from an Animal ShelterMaybe that will be helpful! But first, consider the personality and characteristics you are looking for and see if this dog would be good for your lifestyle.

my Queensland Heeler is wonderful. When I got her at the animal shelter she was just seven months old. She already knew how to sit. She's very happy to meet people and she's smart enough to know that she's not to jump on them. She also knows that there is no point in barking at birds or people who just pass down the street, but she will point and growl if she thinks there might be an intruder. She babysits my new kitten and won't let him get out of the gate. When she jogs with me she stays on the right side, and doesn't get out in the road like my lab/rot does. In fact, my lab/rot has a lot of bad habits that Shela doesn't have. Shela is very loyal and is protective, but not overly so. She watches to see what my next move is, and always does what I tell her. I can tell when she's happy because since her tail was cropped by her previous owner she wiggles her whole body. She sheds a lot in warm weather and I have to keep brushing her, but that's her only shortcoming.

The one you like the most will always be your best breed. I've had a number of dogs over the years and loved them all dearly and been devastated when old age caught up with them. My first was a Jack Russell terrier, then I had a sheep dog, moved up to a German Shepherd and my last was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier who I lost last month. It depends what you want a dog for and if you just bear in mind they will give you unconditional love so you cant go wrong if you treat them right.

The best breed of dog, is the dog that you love and loves you best, be it a pure bred or a mutt. But for me, I love my Rottweilers.

It really depends on you as an owner and your lifestyle. There is no bad dog, there are just bad owners. Have you ever watched the programme Dog Borstal. Its basically naughty dogs that go to boot camp - and the trainers say that most of the problems lie with the actual owner. They also do give some advice / information about certain traits of different breeds. Mic Martin one of the trainers on the programme, has his own website which you might find useful www.micmartin.co.uk I have a bernese moutain dog. They are classed as a giant breed. They have great temperments and are very loving.

We have a cross breed and he is a fantastic dog. He was a rescue dog and has brought us more joy and is our best friend. He is good with other dogs, cats and children he just isnt keen in the postman !! I think if it is possible anyone interested in becoming a dog owner should consider a rescue pet as there are so many needing homes and the number is unfortunately rising

My favorite type is a pit bull. But they are not for everybody. They need to have a owner that will work with them and challangen them. They are very smart. Easy to train. I think they have such a bad rap because they are so smart and strong that people take advantage of it. If you treat them with respect they are great dogs. I have two and a two year old son. They play great together. I hope I was helpful and good luck.
