Other than talking to your local politicians or going to city meetings where the public can attend and voice your opinion there is probably not much you can do. Many cities PROBABLY use statistics that are nationwide to come up with such rules so the fact that there are no reported attack cases in your particular town may not matter. By the way cities are not the only ones that are targeting certain breeds my homeowners insurance asked me if I owned any of these three dog breeds and proceeded to tell me that if I chose to own one of them that they would not cover me due to many reported attacks and for the breeds history of being trained to attack, pitbulls, rottweiler and german shepherd. Now keep in mind that the american staffordshire terrier pretty much looks like a pit bull but the pit is a different breed. When I asked the insurance guy about the german shepherd breed he said that they are a favorite breed for police to train as 'attack' dogs to catch criminals and as 'guard dogs' for businesses etc. which made me laugh/chuckle, unbelievable! So having one or any of these breeds in my case would open me up to 'insurance coverage issues' please make sure the same doesn't apply in your case or that you won't be fined by the city for having such a breed, in certain cases the city MAY try to put your pet to sleep, or take it away from you its all so crazy. If you seriously think about it though, in general, whether it be a family pet or a wild animal people simply cannot absolutely GUARANTEE that the animal will not bite/scratch, anyone attack etc. We can take measures as responsible pet owners to minimize the risk (leashes, muzzles, fenced yards etc.) but if they escape we can only hope for the best and realize that they are a liability for us.
