I think it depends on the breed of dog you have and how old she is. You do not want to breed if the dog is to young. I was always told to wait till the pet has gone through 2 heats. In other words wait till she is at least 2. Then you don't want to breed her to too big of a dog if you have a small dog.

Get her a male dog, she'll know what to do. Maybe ask this question in the category it is meant for.
