i heard king charles spaniels are very loyal and affectionate and have quite good temperments. Dont get a boxer as you cant leave them at all, they are very clingy (bless them!)

Very subjective question. Short haired breed to not shed. Personally I like Boxers. Very good natured dogs.

Olde English Bulldogge... Protective but not aggressive. Not hyper/ high strung. I have one and it is not high need at all.

I have a Staffordshire Terrier (a type of pit bull). She is one of the smartest and most loving dogs I have ever had. She is also a short-haired dog, so she doesn't shed much.

How about adopting a retired greyhound? They are very sweet, perfect for older kids, and great for a family that will be around a lot. They also appreciate on leash walks but do not demand a lot of activity.

Labradors and golden retrievers make good family dogs if you get one whose parents were good family dogs instead of champion field dogs that want to hunt and cover 30 miles a day. Other breeds can be nice too. The main thing to remember is that the dogs personality is formed in the first 4 months of it's life and this is when you do the socializing and training that will make it fit into your lives. Training a puppy means giving him guidance in all situations; not waiting to see what he's going to do.
