| | Guest | What breed of dog should I get and what should I call him?
I am hoping to get a dog next year but I'm not sure what breed to get. Any suggestions? I want a male dog, what should I call him? (I love unusual names!)

It depends. If you are living in a small apartment, then i suggest that you dont get an Irish Wolfhound!! lol! I love have a small cockapoo named Sophie who is sooo sweet! She has such a sweet personality! But that's a personal choice!!! Here is a website you can browse around, it gives you descriptions about different breeds!! http://www.i-love-dogs.com/dog-breeds/Here's another suggestion, visit the dog and make sure it is friendly and healthy before buying!!!! For names, it can depend on the personality of the dog, or what you like. If you have a favorite movie than you can name it after a character. For example, Lord of the Rings, Frodo, or Pippin!! Here is another website you might find useful! http://petrix.com/dognames/Good luck on finding your perfect furry companion!!

If I did not care that there were so many dogs for adoption at the pound, I would buy a Rhodesian Ridgeback, but I would probably go to the SPCA and adopt a stray puppy. This is what I did 16 years ago with Gus. Not such an unusual name but it fits him.

If this is more than just, "What's your opinion"? I have to say you need to answer a few questions before choosing a dog.1. How big a home do you have?2. Any kids, and how old?3. How much time do you have to spend with the dog to train it?4. Any other pets in the home? These are just basic questions. Then reseach the temperament of the dogs you are interested in. The SPCA or a shelter is a great place to find a dog that NEEDS you!Choose wisely, and Good luck.

I have a Havanese male and he is awesome! They have wonderful personalities, are very playful but will be mellow when you don't want to play (unlike alot of small dogs that are obnoxiously hyper all the time). They are small dogs (7-13lbs) but they are the sturdiest of the toy breeds which makes them good companions for children also. My boy has never once been the slightest bit aggressive, they are very loving. Also, my boy doesn't have peeing issues, he actually goes in a litter box and doesn't lift his leg.The down side to them is that they need alot of grooming. You have to brush their hair at leat 3x per week, bath at least once every 2 weeks (this is easy with them cuz they fit in the kitchen sink, pretty quick & easy) and they need hair cuts about every 3 months (depending on your prefrence, I keep my boy's hair shorter). The grooming is the only down side to these dogs everything else about them is totally positive. My boy's name is Rocco and I wouldn't trade him for anything. I suggest you check out Havanese and see what you think for yourself.
