http://www.adoptarescuepet.org/byb.htm...You really should not be breeding dogs at all... unless this is something you plan to do as either a profession or as a VERY expensive hobby according to AKC standards. But from your question it sounds like you would become what we call a "backyard breeder" (look it up)By the age of five years, a female dog and her female offspring can produce 192 puppies (assuming two females per litter and two litters per year). And this doesn't include all of the offspring produced by her male puppies.Humans simply do not produce these outrageous rates. Nor does every human born want a puppy. This adds up to a great deal of unwanted puppies and dogs in our community. Please help us end this tragic overpopulation problem by spaying or neutering your dogs.Do you believe you aren't adding to the pet overpopulation problem if you find good homes for all your pet's puppies or kittens? Then consider this:Suppose there are 10 families in your community who want puppies and can provide good homes for them, but there are 15 puppies who need good homes. When each of the 10 families takes a puppy, there will be 5 "leftover" puppies who have no future except humane euthanasia. Then suppose you let your dog have a litter of five puppies. There are now 20 puppies in the community who need good homes...but still only 10 good homes are available for all the puppies and kittens being born in your community, you can't find a good home for every one.25-50% of those dogs that you do find homes for will still end up in shelters and being euthanized because people will abandon, neglect, abuse or lose them.Do some more research, every smart person will tell you, DO NOT breed your dog. UNLESS you are doing it to further advance the breed, according the the Breed Standard... (ie. if you're a professional dog breeder that shows their dogs)
