With all the new cross breeds coming out the number of dog breeds can only increase as time goes by. The day of the Pure Bred Dog is on the decline. Everyone now wants a DESIGNER DOG. Personally I think that sucks. Give me a plain old Beagle any day....
There are over 450 purebred dog breeds. Some are not registerable with the almighty AKC, but some of these so-called scams or designer dogs have been around almost as long, if not longer than the ones that are registerable. Just some examples... Black and Tan Coonhound, Cane Corso, Rat Terrier, Dogue de Bordeaux. Are these designer breeds too? I think not. Just because AKC won't register them does not mean they are not purebred.
