Chis make great apt dogs because they don't have to walk a lot each day. You can paper train them or box train them.

Sounds like you need a smaller dog. I recommend Shih Tzus, Boston Terriers, Pugs or the more annoying Chihuahas. I have 4 Shih Tzus myself and they are the cutest, sweetest, most playful and loyal dogs and they are great companions. They will follow you all around your apartment just to be with you and spend time with you.

For a single male in an apartment...Not a puppy... I recommend going to the local pound and find an older dog that has some training. Also, how long will you be leaving the dog alone in the apartment? If you're going to work and coming back 8 to 10 hours later, then I would suggest holding off on the dog.If you really want a pet, set up an aquarium.

I like Pugs. They are very friendly unlike some breeds like Chihuahuas, very smart, so if you get them young, easy to train, and don't require much room. They are also so funny. They will do anything to get you laughing. my fav's are the puggy butt run, an puggy belly crawl. They can be box trained too..

Well first off, check with your apartment about weight and breeds. I have a miniature american eskimo and a rat terrior. Both are great pets

I suggest a small-breed dog, like a terrier or a toy or somethign from teh non-sporting group. My favorite small breed dogs (in looks mostly, I have own non of them) are the Norfolk terrier (smallest terrier), Carin Terrier (like Toto =D), Jack Russell Terrier (like Wishbone), Pekenise (check spelling), Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Papillon, Bichon Frise, some of the small spaniels like a Cocker Spaniel (like what Oprah has) or a small breed of Spitz or Setter if you want something that's medium size. Or if you want something bigger, I heard that Greyhounds are great indoor dogs because they act like cats. They're not jumpy, aloof of strangers, and aren't easily excited. But, for a greyhound, you have to teach him to lay on a cusion, becuase they're so bony that sleeping on hard floors hurts them and doens't keep them very warm.I hope this helped

This depends entirely on you and your life style and likes and dislikes.Check out the AKC book of dogs and read up on the different types of dogs. They fall into brackets of herding or hunting, sporting or non sporting, working or toy. etc etc. Find the type you like and read up on what each breed was develouped to do. This will help you decide if that breed fits your Ideah of what you want from your dog partner. Huskies and working dogs for instance need to be working and running and pulling. Terriers are high energy rat attack dogs and need games to entertain them. Some breeds were spacificaly bred for apartment and home life. the Bison Frise for instance and the smaller type poodles do not shed and are content companions in small areas. Require special grooming (clippers). where as a Beagle will howl at night and needs to get his run under the moon...

I would suggest taking this 10 question quiz at: http://animal.discovery.com/breedsel...gselector.doIt will ask questions like how active, what size, personality, grooming requirements etc. Then it will list breeds of dogs that best fit your standards and needs. I found it helpful when I was looking for what breed of dog to get.
