Default yard size for active dogs

Hello everyone, I have two Siberian Huskies (the boys) that are going to be moving with my wife and I up to Pennsylvania to attend law school. We are looking to rent a home, and one potential future landlord has a farmhouse sitting on 93 acres they want to rent out. It does not have a fence, but the landlords are willing to build one for our huskies if we rent from them. The house we have now is small but the yard is big, fenced front and back, and the boys have never appeared to be unhappy with the size of the yard. However, now that the opportunity presents itself, does anyone know if there is an “optimal” yard size for Siberian huskies, or other dog breeds of similar size and energy capabilities? We are not renting all 93 acres, just the house, and I suppose an as yet undetermined yard size. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Eric

PS- mods feel free to move this thread, I tried to put it in the most appropriate forum.

Thank you for the response, we are from Orlando and used to fleas and ticks and know what to do about them. Each dog is chipped with accurate information to the Orlando address, which is a good point as I guess I will have to change the info in the next month or so. The boys run with me or pull me on skates every morning, and lead extremely active lifestyles, as my wife is a jogger as well. It is common for them to get a morning run, as well as another hours worth of walking time between my wife and I, in addition to yard play, but they are not yard dogs, and have their own cages in a room. Honestly my wife and I treat them as practice children, and would never get rid of them.

But then, seeing as these people are willing to build a fence, and since I will likely be providing some of the labor (it's the least I could do...) what size should the fence be? I was thinking maybe a half acre to an acre?

Eric

I have always worked on the theory, and please bear in mind it is only my theory. A dog, any dog in a big yard wont look around the area and think to itself "Oh i have a big yard i best go and exercise"

It sounds like from your post that the dogs do get out and get regular exercise so I would not be too concerned about the yard size, (as long as there is at least a little room to move around and cater for the occasional romp and tumble)

I have an Akita and we have a very small back yard (not much larger than a courtyard really) But there is enough space for him to be able to do his business then not have to lie in it either.

ETA even a quater acre would not be too small, that is quite a large area when you think about it (less work for you too if you are helping with the fence

Default Yard Size

Hello,
Well I know that this was nattiej1976's theory but I have to agree with her
