Default cavalier king charles

Hi I am new here so bear with me . I have a beautiful cavalier king charles bitch but she has an undershot bottom jaw. She is 18 months now. Some people tell me I should not breed her and others tell me its ok. Her breeders I bought her from said I should that her pups wouldnt have it. I just want to do the right thing. has anyone come up against this before and if you bread what were the results with the pups?

I pesronally wouldn't breed her. If she doesn't reach the breed standard I don't see the point in breeding her.

May I ask why you want to breed? Are you into showing?

I presonally think an undershot bottom jaw on a CKCS is a pretty big fault and would most likely be passed down... if not in her littler, then it's probably bound to pop up somewhere in the lines.

If it is fault enough to discredit your dog in the show ring, then it should not be breed from at all. Regardless of nature or personality, you run the risk of passing this fault on, and whilst in some instances it is not too bad, and dog can eat and function fine, there are also instances where misalignment of the jaws and teeth are so severe that a dog is not able to eat solid foods properly. Are you prepared to risk this?

The best thing to do would be to spay this dog, and enjoy her for what she is, a loving member of your family, and great companion.

Yup, said perfectly.

Cavaliers are great as pets, so enjoy her as just a pet
