Question Border Collies?

Hi,

I have some questions about Border Collies, I have heard they are hyper hyper dogs and can be destructive if not kept busy. If you have had a Border Collie, what was your experiance with it? I am looking at a dog to possibly adopt that is Border Collie/Cocker Spaniel mix. When Border Collies are mixed with another breed, does that make them more balanced with their energy? I am looking for a dog that is playful and smart (so I can teach it stuff), but not way to hyper and crazy.

Thank you!

border collies are high energy dogs because they are bred to work. they are herding dogs & do so by nipping at the heels of whatever critters they are herding. they need a LOT of exercise to work off that energy. if you cannot provide that, then don't get one or a mix.

if this is an adult dog, you should be able to get some idea of how it behaves. will the shelter let you take it out for walks etc?

there is really no way to know with a mix who it will favor. you must decide if you can commit to this dog for the rest of its life & work through its problems if there are any. my motto is - prepare for the worst & hope for the best. good luck
