She is more of a guard dog than any of my large breeds - my landlord says he thinks she is better at it and and more scary than any of the others here. Not to say she's vicious, she's just good at holding people off. Sometimes I wish this weren't the case, but it is what she is - there's no breaking that.
there should not be any breaking of this as this is inherited behavior that is indicative of this breed. You want the natural version at its best as opposed to one that has been weakened through poor breeding. I would give a hundred min or minis any day for one true Miniature Pinscher. She is doing what is natural and when done properly, she will not attack. But they are naturally guard oriented and can be very overprotective. This breed does and will very often lay claim to just about anything which can include your bed, furniture or even you. The fun starts when you introduce another 12 of them and see what really happens...lol You will soon discover that once the pecking order has been established in this breed which they are very good at without blood shed, there is generally little in the way of seating area left your you. The unique thing about a Miniature Pinscher is it will show no qualms at all attacking a larger dog that is attempting to lay claim to its property but with another Miniature Pinscher, the fray is more posturing and less actual attack.

I swear she knows her own kind, when she is around another Miniature Pinscher he whole attitude changes. She has no issues with any other small dog, but her and my German Shepherd have difficulties from time to time. It has always been a battle of who is "Queen"...Libby doesn't need to fight for her position, but my GSD sure thinks she needs to challenge Libby on this.
Have you researched the GSD much?

I have studied many breeds over the years but no where near what I have with Zwergpinschers. I was raised with a GSD/Wolf mix so that really would not count. I know little about them but not enough that I could state anything outside of what most people know of them. I know I have always liked the breed. As for the GSD and its actions with regards to the Miniature Pinscher, I can tell you this is normal. I have had several alphas and typically the females take this role. In Miniature Pinschers as they do nor perceive themselves to be small larger dogs usually begin to see this too after dealing with them a few times...lol

Yes, LOL, I think Leila (GSD) is sick of Libby...Libby doesn't try to fight for top (probably because she believes she is already AT the top ), but Leila continues to try...

Breeds i would never own include:

Labs--too much energy
Chows--too mean
Bull dogs--too many health problems
Most toys with the exception of the chihuahua--(because why have any toy OTHER than a chihuahua?)
And designer hybrid crosses--that's just stupid

Hmmm I am not sure if there is any breed I would never ever own. I like all breeds but prefer large breeds.
