Default Dog breeds you would never own

We have all specified what dog breeds we love and why. But, do you have a specific breed, or breeds you would never consider owning, and why?

Small/toy breeds. I'm 6"1, 215lbs and whenever i'm around small dogs i feel like Lenny with his mouse. I'm always afraid I'll step/sit/accidently crush the dog.

I know they're really popular with just about everyone else on the planet, but I don't think I would ever own a Lab. I don't have anything against them, I just don't like the bouncing all over the place, the shedding, and I guess I've just been around too many in my time as a professional dog bather. I would go whole days where I would bathe, clip the nails, and clean the ears of 8 Labs, all in a row. That gets kinda old after a while Also, anything too big and hairy, like a Newfie or a Samoyed. I have also met many snappy, yappy American Eskimo dogs. I don't know if this is a breed thing or if it's just the individual dog themselves. Little tiny dogs like Chihuahuas and tiny Yorkies are a bit too fragile for my taste as well. I do like smaller dogs, though. My favorite breed that I hope to own in a year or so is a Miniature Long-haired Dachshund. A grooming colleague of mine's mother breeds and shows them, and her dogs are the sweetest things I've ever met. She places them in homes with special-needs children, elderly people with Alzheimer's, and disabled people. Overall, they're just the right breed for me

well, I don't have anything against most dogs, I think they all have their ups and downs but their is one dog that comes to mind that I know I would never want. A Chinese Crested Dog, those things turn my stomach, any other kind of dog I think I would be ok with.

If you own a chinese crested dog, I hope that comment does not hurt your feelings or offend you, It may be a great dog, it's just not the dog for me.

Any toy breed. I own a shiba and that's about the smallest size of dog I would want for myself

I woudln't have a toy dog, just because I do a lot of hiking, running, sports with my dogs so obvioulsy, I like them big and athletic.

Other than that....I've always been a bit nervous around huskies. I think it's because local rescue groups here get a lot of dogs from northern areas where they have been abused and even crossed with wolves...so most of the dogs I've seen have been a little agressive.

A Great Dane. They are HUGE. If you had to hop in the car and go somewhere and you wanted to take your dog....it sounds like it would be an adventure just getting your dog to your destination. Maybe its just me.

I personally dislike smaller breeds. I'd never own anything smaller than a husky, golden, or samoyed. I like agility and conformation, and I dont think it would be too much fun with a smaller dog. JMO. Oh, and I'd never own any kindof "Goldendoodle", "Labradoodle", etc. I think those breeds are just stupid and whoever created them are.. well, lets not get into that. >_> I saw a goldendoodle at a pet store once. They're ugly, period.

I totally agree about the small dogs!
But I just happened to spend some time with a goldendoodle pup yesterday and LOVED it! Talk about an intellegent, good mannered dog. Just goes to show...different people like different things

There are not many I don't like but I would probably never have a poodle My FIL has them I am not fond of them. They are yappy and his are so mean. I have just had a bad experience with them I guess. Or a "designer breed" unless it came from the shelter because any designer dog from a breeder comes from a backyard breeder or puppy mill and i don't support them

I love dogs, but I could never own a poodle, toy or standard! No offense to anyone that owns them, I personally don't care for them AT ALL!

I am the odd one I guess. At 6'2" and 275lbs I have raised all sizes from 165 lbs Mal/Wolf to my current Miniature Pinschers. I have never looked at dogs as some I like some I do not. I was more into their personality which is not generally a breed issue but more of a dog issue.

Default Tiny Dogs

I would be afraid of stepping on the very tiny dogs, but other than that, I don't think I dislike any dog breed in particular.

I've owned Rotties, three of them, and they are one of the gentlest breeds I have ever had, despite what people say about them being killers and vicious.

Mom2twopups... labradoodles and goldendoodles do NOT all come from BYB's or Puppy Mills. I have two. One from rescue and one from a breeder. I also know a number of breeders, DOZENS actually, who set very high standards for their breeding and do more testing than many pure breed breeders (OFA and PennHIP, PRA for eyes, vwd on poodles, thyroid, DNA testing, etc) AND offer health guarantees, will take back pups/dogs back to rehome at any time (to prevent more shelter dogs) and MORE!

Being a groomer, I do not want to come home and spend hours grooming my own dogs, so no Poodles, Bichons, ...doodles, or big hairy dogs for me. I also don't want to clean dog spit off the ceiling, so no Newfies, St. Bernards, Pyrs.

I have a 10 pound longhaired Dachshund, and never worry about sitting/stepping on him. He moves faster than I do, LOL. I also have a standard Dachshund, and I've tripped over him a couple of times. He has since learned to move out of the way.

Haha, i love John Steinbeck. Poor Lenny... i'm not sure if i felt worse for Lenny or George for what he felt he had to do. BUT this is a dog forum, and i have the same answer: Im not much for small dogs... i'm a boxer-and-up kinda of gal. That includes Great Danes, Saints.. anything big, cushy and can possibly crush ME.

There aren't any specific "Breeds" i'd rather not own (other than small breeds), i don't usually go by breed.. im more of a personality gal. I find good in every breed.

I love them all, but I will leave the ownership of toy or small breeds to somone else. More than happy to enjoy them whilst they are around me, but for us,if we want a small animal we get a cat......want a dog......we get a BIG dog.

We travel and camp a fair bit, and find that the larger breeds seem to cope well with the outdoors, and the extremes in weather a bit bitter than the small ones.
