Firstly, the pit bull is not a bad breed. However, they are extremely powerful and have a strong mind. They need firm rules and a confident, dominant leader to function properly in a family setting. If the 3 month old pit puppy is biting, that needs to be fixed now, not later. When the puppy plays too rough or bites in play, you need to turn around, cross your arms, keep your hands out of the way, and ignore her. She will realize that this kind of rough, potentially dangerous play is not acceptable, and, over time, will play more gently. If you want a gentle, sweet dog for young children, my favorite is the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They are a little expensive to buy a purebred puppy, but they are wonderful little dogs. They average about 15-18 pounds (not huge, but not really tiny). They have been bred for companion purposes for centuries, so their temperments are exceptionally sweet and docile. They are generally very quiet, although they need lots of attention and time with their people. If you have any more questions, you can go to the AKC website or search for Cavalier King Charles Spaniel on a search engine.
