Who here as any experience with weimaraners?
As some may know, I was looking to get a Siberian Husky and all, but I've been doing more and more reading on Weimaraners, and I'm starting to reconsider.
I always wanted a dog who would like, "live in my shadow" and be protective of me, and bond more closely with me than anyone else. I like high-energy dogs. Huskies though, thats a different thing. They have lots of energy, but they are way too independent and more interested in their own thing. One of our old huskies used to hate staying in the room with me, she'd much rather just lay outside on the patio. Every once and a while she would come over to me to pet her, and then she'd go and do her own thing. She could've cared less to cuddle with me, and was ALWAYS looking for ways to get out. She was quite the escape artist and could jump the 6 foot fence we had! Oh, and when I would take her on walks she would pull backwards and slip right out of her collar (Trust me, it fit her perfectly) She was beautiful and I'm sure she loved me, but she was just too independent for me. I always read there were two shedding seasons a year. Well, I'd like to meet those lucky people who experience it bi-seasonal. For me, its YEAR ROUND. And I live in Texas.. which means twice the shedding.
Anyways- what Ive heard about Weimaraners. Well, they are protective. Shadows. And bond closely to one person. Ive never owned them, or been around them, so I dont know. I could be wrong. They are intellegent, high-energy, and opinionated. Size and energy-level is not a problem. They are for experienced owners, not a problem. Ive played with one once a long time ago, but that was it. It was a puppy. They have short coats, so I guess not as MUCH shedding as a husky, but still some shedding. I found a breeder and Im talking to her about it, but any help from you would be great.
I dont know if any of you have any experience with them. I know these two breeds are completely different from eachother. Opinions? or, anything you can tell me about them or where I am wrong. I stated at the top what I am looking for in a dog. Ive been around dobies, I imagine they are some-what alike.
I dont want to go wrong, so help please.

Aw, that's cute.
I talked to my parents about it (I am only 15 years old, surprising?), they aren't too fond of getting a new breed of dog. They are very much used to huskies, and we all agreed on one from the start anyways. Even though the new dog will be mine, I must be considerate of the other people I live with. I suppose when I get older, with my own place, I will see about looking more into them.
I found a husky girl that were going to go see tomorrow. We will see how that turns out. Heres a picture of her: | |
