Honestly, I don't see much resemblance to either a German Shepherd or Husky in him. The shape of his head and length of coat are wrong for either of those breeds, mixed with St. Bernard.
I'd suspect something smooth coated, like the Catahoula. He obviously shows more influence from the Saint in his coloring, but that's to be expected. His head shape also suggests something like a Catahoula, even though it still shows the influence of the Saint.
Mixed breed dogs can be difficult to peg. Sometimes one breed shows stronger than the other, and I think that's what's throwing you off.
Oh, and a German Shepherd shouldn't have a tail that curls up. They might raise their tail to express different emotions, but it shouldn't curl, like a Husky or Malamute tail. Also, in the first picture, his tail looks pretty straight, and it's fairly smooth. If he were mixed with GS, Husky or Mal, he's have a much hairier tail.
