Question What Is Thor...

We got Thor June 2008 when he was 4 months old. We were told that he is a St.Bernard/Catahoula cross. We don't think he is catahoula though because we have seen a few different types of catahoulas at the dog park and he does not seem to have much in common with them. His tail seems a lot like the German shepherds and Huskies we see at the park. He hasn't cooperated well with me taking a picture of him standing so you can see his tail but it curls up to his back just like a German or Husky. Also in the pictures you can see that his ears sometimes stay up half-cocked when interested in something. Please give us your input as we are only making assumptions. Thanks in advance...

Honestly, I don't see much resemblance to either a German Shepherd or Husky in him. The shape of his head and length of coat are wrong for either of those breeds, mixed with St. Bernard.

I'd suspect something smooth coated, like the Catahoula. He obviously shows more influence from the Saint in his coloring, but that's to be expected. His head shape also suggests something like a Catahoula, even though it still shows the influence of the Saint.

Mixed breed dogs can be difficult to peg. Sometimes one breed shows stronger than the other, and I think that's what's throwing you off.

Oh, and a German Shepherd shouldn't have a tail that curls up. They might raise their tail to express different emotions, but it shouldn't curl, like a Husky or Malamute tail. Also, in the first picture, his tail looks pretty straight, and it's fairly smooth. If he were mixed with GS, Husky or Mal, he's have a much hairier tail.
