Default Best spitz for modest sized apartment?

Hi,

I'd like to own a white spitz-type breed (Samoyed? American Eskimo? Japanese Spitz?) but I live in a not too large Manhattan apartment. I would be able to take the dog out a few times a day for walks and bathroom breaks. I'm looking for a highly affectionate dog that would deal well with other dogs and human beings, and be willing to sit patiently by me for hours while I work.

Any recommendations for which breed I should get? Am I better off going with a smaller dog? I really like the Samoyeds best, but I'm not sure if my environment is the best for them. I definitely want a puppy (though of course I realize a puppy, while it's still a puppy, is not very patient and requires a lot of work).

Thanks.

Ill let you do the research but Ill give you a list of breeds that may be appropriate due to their size or temprament being appropriate to appartments....gives you a starting point at least. Not many of these are all white breeds, but some can be bred as whites or at least in some lighter colours.

Alaskan Klee Kai
American Eskimo Dog
Eurasier....................One of my personal favourites on this list
Finnish Spitz
German Spitz AKA German Klein Spitz
Japanese Spitz
Keeshond
Lapphunds
Samoyed
Schipperke
Shiba Inu
Volpino Italiano

Have a look at these ones anyway, some of them might take your fancy.

Good luck

eeee... size wise they are all great. However you might have a problem if you get one with high energy. They ALL bark a lot so that probably will raise problems in a apartment building.
my favorite BTW is the Alaskan Klee Kai. They are cute as a button.

Spitz dogs are high energy and know to be vocal with strangers and other dogs. American Eskimos do not do well being alone all day. You might want to rethink the breed line you are going for if you are so worried about it. There are more easy going breeds out there.

Hi

Have you decided yet? Here's a cool list: Best Dog Breeds for Apartments / Homes Without Yards

I think I can only see two Spitz breeds on it - German and Pomeranian.
