Hi everyone!
We went yesterday to look at a puppy at the local shelter listed as a "mastiff mix". I'm trying to determine what he's mixed with to determine if he'll be a good fit for our family before we bring him home. I grew up with many breeds of large dog and am familiar with their characteristics, but would like to have an idea of the "unknown" so that everyone including the puppy, ends up in the right place

I think whatever his mix is... if you can show him you love him and take care of him... he will reciprocate what you show to him... and be a great dog for you and your family.

I love playing guess the breed. My guess is an American Staffordshire Terrier and Smooth Coated St. Bernard. Check out these pics and imagine melding them into one puppy.

By the way, shelter employees and volunteers are not always that good at picking a breed. Around here the shelters list anything with short hair, big ears and low to the ground as a Chihuahua or a Chi Mix.
