Default Need Companion for Keeshond

I have a 3 yr. old female keeshond that has been with our lab since born. Unfortunately, our lab has cancer, and we need to replace her. Can anyone please give me some ideas as to what dog would be compatible with my docile keeshond besides a lab?

Well it depends on a few things.
Does your keeshond like to play? Is she hyper or does she like to sleep? Do you want another big dog or a small one?

Default Keeshond Companion

Thanks for the reply. She is a little on the hyper side. She loves to play. I want a dog the size of her. I visited a sheba breeder, and found out they like to dig out of the yard, and run away, given the chance. I don't want a dog that will dominate my keeshond. I don't want another lab, even if their temperament works with the keeshond, nor do I want another keeshond. I was thinking of a boxer, but worried it will dominate my dog. I also want a female.

A boxer would work but be aware that they tend to be very high strung, the ones I know are anyway. If you don't want it to dominate your dog then just try to find a boxer that is fairly submissive so that she wont be pinning your other dog or fighting to rough.

okay. It finally came to me. I won't get a dog that is the same size due to being competitive with the keeshond. Since my keeshond is used to a dog larger than her, and the lab has a personality to please, I'm finally starting to narrow it down to another lab. Ater all that's what she is used to. I've had a black lab, and my current lab is blonde, so I'll get a chocolate lab puppy. Come on, labs are the cutest puppies, and won't be too dominating to the keeshond, but a companion, which is what I want.

Chris , we have many dogs and what we have learned , as have many others . Smaller dogs rule . Our keeshond was the ruler of our St's , Newfie , Timberwolf and Lab . UNTILL we got our corgi ! She's the boss now ! Mind you the corgi (Mandy) is our only female .I dont have a specific breed to suggest to you but I would recommend a larger breed . As for a specific breed running away , well , my opinion , If the dog is HOME it will stay home . As all pet lovers know , they dont ask for much , just love !
Wishing you all a great , safe holiday season !
