Default How did you choose your breed(s) of dog?

Was it an impulse decision? Was it because you had been given that breed before (as a child perhaps?) Was it based on recommendations from friends or family? Was it because someone you know had the same breed?

Did you do your research to find a dog that fit your personality and style of living?

If you had to do it over, would you choose another breed?

I've had Dachshunds since I was a child, and I'll always have a couple of them. I like their sense of humor, their zest for life, their intelligence, and don't mind their willfulness and stubbornness. It keeps me on my toes. Mostly I like them because they make me laugh. All the time.

I fell in love with Bull Terriers at a dog show. It was literally love at first sight. I walked around a corner and was confronted with two of them in the back of the owners car. My first reactions was "That's IT! That's what I want!" After talking with the owner/breeder about temperament and disposition, and after playing with her dogs for a couple of hours, I was sold. I put a deposit down on her next litter right then and there, and picked up my little bundle of teeth and jaws 5 months later.

I love the Bully's sense of humor, too. And their intelligence (they're way smarter than any other dog I've dealt with, including Poodles and Border Collies), their determination, and their tolerance of kid's nonsense. I love their look, it's unique and so unusual; that big, egg with ears head. I love the whole package. I currently do not have one, but one of these days....

The dachshunds look charming.

The bull terriers are one of the ugliest dogs I've ever seen.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think Bull Terriers are gorgeous. But you really have to meet one in person to fully appreciate just how gorgeous they are. After living with them, I found many other breeds to be deficient in bone and substance by comparison.

Your lack of tact and total disregard for the feelings of others never ceases to amaze me. How would you feel if someone told you that your child was the ugliest kid they'd ever seen?

Rofl,, Crestie, I can tell you EXACTLY how she would feel. She could care less and she would proceed to tell everyone how her child is prettier, smarter, cleaner, better dressed, better fed than everyone else's and how ignorant you are to suggest otherwise.

PS, then she would proceed to tell you that she really doesn't have any children but if she did it would be...

Baaahaaaaahhaaaa, Splinters. I am very hypersensitive to people saying any dog is ugly...since my breed is consistently in the "ugly dog contests" and I see absolutely nothing ugly about them at all...even Sam was beautiful to me.

Personally, I think we should treat Wouldbe as any other forum troll & just ignore her posts - she's obviously not here to learn, nor make friends!

Crestie, This is just the tip of the iceburg with me...

Someone telling me my kids are ugly?? It won't happen. Trust me. I have two boys that are so handsome, they make their little female peers weak in the knees. I'm dead serious. And yeah, I'm very proud.

Crestie, since I don't plan on voluntarily going anywhere, you have two choices: sit down and shut up, or...hang on, and enjoy the ride...

Splinters, honey, don't hate. It isn't attractive.

I'm not in particular for a specific breed...When I feel that I like this dog and he/she looks great and kind I think I will love that dog...Most of our dogs are given by friends and relatives...

Wouldbe, there are different kinds of ugly. Superficial ugly; what we see at first glance. Then there's the ugly that goes clear to the bone. A condescending, smug, self centered ugly that seems to prevail in people who are overeducated to the point of having no common sense. An ugly that shows no compassion or consideration for anyone else's feelings. The ugly that eventually makes grown folks hate you, and leaves you lonely and alone with nothing to console you but your ugliness.

Not every thought that goes through your mind is worthy of coming out your mouth. Or your fingertips, as it were.

I am beginning to agree with the person who said you should be treated like a troll. Ignored.

Hate? Pretty full of themselves I say. I don't even believe in "trolls" so I can't possibly be ascribed such a visceral emotion as hate to one.

Crestie...sigh...You posted about your little stuffed friends before. In any event, I do appreciate the info. Do NOT stop posting!

Vetgroomer, I'm here to learn. Hopefully, I can share in an exchange of information. You strike me as someone too intelligent to be sucked in by unstable personalities. I will take what you have said into consideration, if you will a afford me the same courtesy.

Splinters...the siggy. Read the siggy. What I'm referring to in my signature is something I do very well...

Having read the siggy, and being not only too intelligent, but having too much street sense, to be sucked in by an unstable personality, what in the world makes you think I don't see what's going on here?

Oh, I see the farm, honey. But I'm not buying it!

We just easily fall in love with my buddy when we visit the rescue house, he's the only one that is looking straight to us without barking or something, just a lovely innocent face.
