Hi

I am used to seeing very heavy set, rolling Newfies. I love and adore them, but then a while ago I encountered a beautiful dog that looked rather like a black Great Pyrenees. Turns out he was an imported Newfoundland, so the lady told me, of a more traditional type. His build was lighter and more comfortable/healthy looking - a very substantial dog, but with a less massive head, lighter jowls and generally more slimline.

I'm trying to recall where he was imported from. I assume Canada? Who breeds this style anywhere on the planet? What can anyone tell me about the differences between these two Newfie types?

I dont know any breeders of this dog breed. Have you checked craiglist?
