Default Australian Shepherd (and black lab) Question

How large was your Aussie at 13weeks? Height, and weight?

My Aussie is about 15" tall at the shoulder, and weighs probably 16 pounds (I'm not certain on that one my scale sucks lol. I personally think she's getting closer to 20). She was a rescue from a shelter, so I know she's not pure, but I'm beginning to suspect she's either mixed with something really large (she looks much, much bigger than the pictures of 3mo olds I'm finding) or she's much older than they thought she was. I got her at 6-1/2 weeks. The vet never suggested a different, older, age for her during checkups so I'm really confused (also I'm concerned that she may be closer to heat than expected since I haven't been able to get her home to spay her O_O).

For those with black labs, same question. The shelter thought she was mixed with a black lab but I'm not sure so I'd like to see what the average height-weight at three months is there.

Thanks so much!

Can you post a picture?

The vet can tell by the teeth how old the puppy is. Females can go into heat as early as 5 months so get her spayed as soon as the vet thinks it's good to do so.

She was supposed to be spayed a week or two ago but I live quite far away from where I adopted her and I just haven't been able to get away to get her back for the weekend. Very soon. If she is at the age the shelter said she was then she has two months before she should be going into heat. Hopefully.

Picture... I don't think I have a very recent one but let me check... okay I do but it's not very good lol. Camera phone ftw?

Here she is at 6-1/2 weeks: http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/g...ses/tongue.jpg

And here she is as oooofff... yesterday morning: http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/g...oses/avvie.jpg

Ah and here's one as of... a week and some change ago...

That one went better lol.

She's definitely got the Aussie merle coloring! and the blue eyes. There might be some lab in there...they seem to like to spread their genes around. Gorgeous.

Vets are pretty good at aging puppies because of the teeth so I would trust the vet's estimation of age. It's when they become adults that it can get fuzzy.

Aussies are great, highly intelligent dogs. You should consider field trials or agility or flyball or....

Did I mention I think your pup is beautiful? ;-)

She actually has brown eyes lol. Must be the light. She had green eyes when I brought her home but they changed (damn).

Thank you! I think she's beautiful too. -blushscufftoe- She definitely caught my eye. I wanted an adult and came home with a 6-1/2 week old puppy rofl.

We walk about 10miles at least once a week, she spends the rest of the day playing with my boss' dog and then several times a week if I can get home early enough we walk four miles. I should never have done it, now her stamina is too good! rofl. I'm looking into starting her in agility when she gets old enough, I think it would be really fun. She's damned smart, it's scary. At 7 weeks she was sitting and lying down on voice and hand signal command. She can also come when called, heel - I'm almost guaranteed if we go somewhere she can be off-leash and stay right at my side... I'm not, of course, relying on that but it's nice... it's amazing how smart this dog is lol.

I'm kinda glad she's going lab-sized lol! My parents were determined that I get a small dog and I was like "oh, right, okay" and chose an Aussie for a medium dog. Conveniently not hearing that she was possibly a lab mix. xDDD I love big dogs.

Just got back from her third puppy shot... she's 22.8 pounds! O_O Wow!

The vet assistant thinks she'll get to around 45lbs.

I'm not sure about that, if Avvie is gaining 1lb a week... by six months she'll be almost fifty... and six months is only half grown... guess we'll see eh?

Brown, really?! Funny I could have sworn...darn, I love blue eyed dogs!

Smart dogs are great but we have to stay a step ahead which can be exhausting at times! Yes, agility would be perfect for a dog who needs mental and physical challenge. Aussies do extremely well in agility. Flyball is another great sport for smart, athletic dogs. You may also have yourself a hiking partner there!

Me thinks the vet assistant is a bit confused! If that 7 week old is 22lbs now, she will definitely be bigger than 45 pounds full growed!

Gorgeous dog....and yes, I like big dogs too...currently I have medium sized dogs but I like'em big. Little lap dogs are cute and all but they hardly count as DAWGs, knowwhatimean?
